Michael Thomas: Lowest Tender

Some on this board have said Thomas is not worth keeping.

I am hoping to retain him based on his Special Teams leadership and excellent performance.

The Dolphins chose to tender him at the lowest amount. Apparently this means that if we do not match another team's offer to Thomas, we lose him with no compensation:

I wonder if this is "letting the market set his price" or if we are prepared to lose him?

I doubt teams will be lining up to sign a STs player that basically sucks on defense, but I don't think it's a big loss for the Phins if he does sign elsewhere. Shouldn't be hard to replace him. Plus, we already have Aikens, who is cheaper and IMO just as good on specials. No need to have two DBs that shouldn't play DB.

I have to agree. Aikens has displayed skills to be a good or great Special teamer. Thomas isn't worth the money. even drafting a low DB would be better.

Really, you can find an undrafted FA to play STs...and there's a good chance you could find an undrafted FA that plays better at safety too.

Even though they signed him they can get rid of him. IMO, that plan can still be considered.
