a new long snapper?
Miami announced today that it signed 24-year-old long snapper Winston Chapman, who had a strong career at Mississippi State before tearing his ACL in 2015. This is his first NFL contract.
The interesting part of this pickup is that it threatens the longest-tenured player on the team, John Denney. Denney, a 38-year-old unrestricted free agent...

if Denney doesn't re-sign, i guess this will be the guy moving forward. nobody will care unless (or until) he botches a snap.

Only 6'2" and hasn't played since 2015? There's got to be someone better out there, no?
Better off just keeping Denney if he wants to keep playing.

I have said for years this team will not win a playoff game until every last member of the '07 roster is gone. Only Denney remains. Figure it out.

You don't realize how important a good long snapper is until you have a shitty one.

That is definitely true. Long snappers are almost like QB a diamond in the ruff.

Absolutely. And the other thing to remember is that Denney is just an excellent STs player in general. I don't think I've ever seen another long snapper that sheds blocks and gets downfield as quickly as he does - and he makes a bunch of tackles every season. He is going to be missed if and when his days in Miami are up. His name rarely gets mentioned, but I think we're all going to learn the meaning of "don't know what you got till it's gone" when we have a new LS.

I met John Denny in Indy once. He was so cool to my kids. He was just stoked someone recognized him. This was a long time ago. It might have been his first year in Miami.
