Pre-draft mock Empty Pre-draft mock

Since there is only about a week left before the draft I figure I do one more.

Round 1 Pick 26 (SEA): Jabrill Peppers, SS/FS, Michigan (A+)
Round 2 Pick 26 (SEA): Dorian Johnson, OG, Pittsburgh (A-)
Round 2 Pick 29 (G.B.): Cordrea Tankersley, CB, Clemson (A)
Round 3 Pick 33 (COMP): Anthony Walker Jr., ILB, Northwestern (B)
Round 3 Pick 37 (DEN): JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, Southern California (A+)
Round 4 Pick 20 (DEN): Jonnu Smith, TE, Florida International (B)
Round 5 Pick 22: Matthew Dayes, RB, NC State (B-)
Round 5 Pick 34 (COMP): Jarron Jones, DT, Notre Dame (A)
Round 5 Pick 40 (COMP): Hunter Dimick, DE, Utah (B)
Round 6 Pick 19 (DEN): Eric Wilson, OLB, Cincinnati (B-)
Round 7 Pick 5: Aarion Penton, CB, Missouri (B)

I know how unrealistic this is but we can only hope that Miami will get this many picks. I would like to see Peppers in the back field with Jones.

I'd sign off on this draft especially if Miami really does intend on going big nickel. The combo of Drake returning kicks and Peppers returning punts would about as good as it gets.

Personally I have this feeling Miami likes Obi better than Peppers. I'm sort of hoping if Lamp is gone, Miami can trade down and get Obi.

JuJu would be a steal in the 3rd. I also like the Jarron Jones and Dorian Johnson picks.

I readily admit I have NO IDEA what Miami is planning.

I do think that the player who is available and would (I THINK) make a great pick for Miami is USUALLY not the one Miami picks.

Trading down if there are a pile of players you have all rated with equal grades are still on the board makes sense. I do not think Miami will do that, but who knows? Maybe I will be surprised. I think Tannenbaum is watching for the one guy he has rated highly that falls and THAT is who he will pick IMHO.

Everyone keeps talking about this draft's depth, but after the studs are gone, it looks to me like most everyone else could be rated from a 4th to a 6th without much argument.

I sincerely hope Miami can get AT LEAST TWO STARTERS out of this draft.   Two starters and two REAL contributors would make me absolutely giddy!!!

We may be able to get future starters, but as I've said before there are really no starting positions open on this team right now. Maybe guard - but that's really it.

I HATE the way the roster has been put together this offseason. Many of our starters are dead-end/stopgap types that aren't very good - but they're making enough money that, barring injury, they're almost certainly not going to lose out to a rookie. It's a roster filled with players that aren't going to be Dolphins in one-two years, and these guys are taking up roster spots and playing time that would be better used on developing younger players.

I pretty much agree. But I think a DE like Willis would be impossible to keep off the field.

That is true but sometimes you have to get some stopgap players to fill up the roster. Gase is looking for players that can fit his scheme and I don't have a problem with that

"Some" stopgap players are fine and necessary...but we have a team full of them, especially on defense.

As for Willis - he's one of my favorite DEs in the class. DE is one position where a player can at least get playing time as a situational pass rusher, but I'd MUCH rather have Wake/Willis/Hayes instead of Wake/Branch/Hayes/Willis.

You are making me rethink my stance that there is no way Miami drafts a TE in round one should one fall.

TE ain't happening in any round.  We're already 3 deep with another "developmental" practice squadder.  We don't have room for another.  Too bad, because there are some great TEs in this class, even later in the draft.

Also no need to worry about OJ Howard falling - never gonna happen!  Njoku falling to 22 is a slight possibility...but VERY slight IMO.

Solid; we'd come away with a lot of contributors.

As usual, I traded up and down a lot in my latest:

Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 10 (N.O.): Budda Baker, FS, Washington (A)

Round 2 Pick 30 (PITT): Taylor Moton, OT/OG, Western Michigan (A)
Round 3 Pick 5 (LAR): Derek Rivers, DE/OLB, Youngstown State (A)
Round 3 Pick 15 (MINN): Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida (A+)
Round 3 Pick 28 (DAL): Ahkello Witherspoon, CB, Colorado (A)
Round 3 Pick 30 (PITT): Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy (A+)

Yep, Watt's injury history is a big concern. But the bigger concern for me is that I see him strictly as a 3-4 OLB...I don't think he's a 4-3 DE. He's not a fit for the Miami D at all, IMO.

I think he would initially be a SAM linebacker but he's still growing. I think he could easily get to around 270. But I also think he's athletic enough to play LB in a 4-3. I just can't get passed the injury history.

Well, the SAM hardly ever plays in Miami's D so that would be a wasted pick in round one or two. But, I just find it difficult to project Watt as anything other than a 3-4 OLB...maybe he can play another position, but IMO any other spot would minimize his skills. And you never know what happens to a player when you ask him to add a lot of weight.
