Phins close to signing safety Nate Allen
Kind of a "meh" signing for me if it happens. Allen has good ball skills, but he's pretty mediocre overall IMO. Fills a need, so that's good, but really just a warm body.

I would have to agree. He is not the greatest player but he will be a good example for the young players that have poor ball skills.

He spent his first five seasons with them before testing the free agent market and signing with the Oakland Raiders. He signed a four-year deal with the Raiders but was released after only one season but re-signed for less money.
Last season in Oakland, Allen recorded 33 tackles, two interceptions and three pass defenses in 14 games. He has a career total of 368 tackles, 4.0 sacks, 34 pass defenses, 13 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles. During his first year in Oakland, he suffered a torn MCL which cost him eleven games.

Needed another body at safety with IAQ gone.
Draft is deep here, and safeties typically go in later rounds. Would love it if we drafted a guy and he outplays Allen to win a starting job this season.

If the defense starved Raiders let him go, that pretty much says everything that needs to be said IMO.
Still, when you look at the depth chart and then look at him, you go, "For the money, this dude ain't so bad?"
