Dolphins' Pouncey walks with cane at Hernandez's funeral
Omar wrote:Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey has been using a cane to walk for months, but pictures taken of him outside Aaron Hernandez’s private memorial service raise concern about his lingering hip injury.
Pouncey, who missed all but five games last season because of the injury, was spotted outside of Hernandez’s funeral walking with the assistance of a cane. Pouncey and Hernandez, who committed suicide while in prison last week, were close friends and roommates at the University of Florida.
According to an NFL source, Pouncey, who has missed 19 games the past four seasons because of injuries, has used a cane or crutches regularly to assist the hip’s healing. Pouncey has been rehabbing at the team’s facility, and participated in the Dolphins’ first organized team activity session last week.

Lets be honest I don't see Pouncey playing all season so the fact that Miami might and will have to draft someone either this year or next year is going to happen. I know Gase seeing this picture will concern him and will make him use a mid-round or a late round pick to get a center. Anthony Steen isn't the guy to rely on and Miami will have to look at other options

Yup, I've wanted them to replace Pouncey for a bit now, not because he's not elite when he's healthy, it's because he's not healthy.

Eh. We can only pour so many resources into the offensive line.
If we are going to go there and someone like Lamp or another first round worthy prospect drops to us, I would not be totally opposed to using our #22 pick.
But a center to replace Pouncey? Nah.
First of all, this was a stem cell procedure that was planned as part of his current rehab. It's not a surprise, or a regression in his hip. He'll be fine.
I believe we also have a backup candidate already on the roster at Guard. That's about as far as I would go as far as contingency planning. We need a contingency, not a replacement. Not right now, anyways. Let's shore up all the other roster holes first then look at it.

Larsen will play center if Pouncey can't go. I think he's a better center than guard, so that isn't a bad Plan B. But we still need two guards IMO.

And this is why I'd like to take Lamp in round one and Elflien in round 3. Just get the OL rebuild over with.

Yeah, that's certainly one way to go and it would help the team. But for me, I think talent has to trump need in the first round. And as good as Lamp is, I believe there will be a few players at 22 that are far more talented than Lamp. And those players will be on the defensive side of the ball, which certainly fills a need as well. Taking Lamp when we could instead take a stud pass rusher or DB would be a mistake IMO. We can get solid O-linemen later in the draft - grab top talent while you can.

This might be the reason why Gase is pushing to get more picks. Pouncey isn't going to get where he was with the hip injury. I say he get cut next year.

WE could, yes. This team has demonstrated repeatedly that they cannot.

I would not mind it. Many here in DFW were complaining about the Cowboys spending so many picks on the O-line between 2011 and 2014 but they aren't complaining now.

The Dolphins have done the same thing, dropping many high picks and and tons of free agent $ on the OL. The difference is, the Cowboys added good linemen across the board, and the Dolphins whiffed on most of their linemen. The bottom line is it's not how much resources you put into it that counts - it's WHO you add. The Cowboys made smart choices, and the Dolphins didn't.
Regardless, I don't know how much the offense is really going to improve this year by drafting a guard...it's essentially the same unit that played last season. I think this team will live and die by it's defense, and adding talent on that side of the ball can make a real difference in the W-L record. Of course, we won't be drafting starters on D because of what we did in free agency, but a pass rush specialist and/or nickle corner (for example) can make significant contributions.
I don't know...the fact remains that the Phins can use help everywhere, so ultimately the position they draft in round one doesn't matter. What matters is that they add a stud player, regardless of position. A guard would definitely not be my choice in round one, but it would still help - as long as it's a great player, and not a mediocre Ja'Wuan James-type.

We're lining up. I agree. Just finish the job. Of course, that requires them to actually pick TALENTED players. Lamp and Elflien certainly fit the bill.

When I first saw this headline, I thought, "Which 'Cane would walk with Pouncey?" Then I realized it was a walking cane and not a Miami Hurricane.

Seeing Pouncy with that cane didn't give me much hope that he will play much this upcoming season.
