First of all I want to thank Rightchea for posting *something* around here cheers

Secondly, if some of these battles continue to be battles it'll only mean the Fins had another lousy draft. Mike Hull VS McMillan??? Godcheaux and Taylor VS somebody named Nick Williams I've never even heard of??? Then again, we're talking about a coach that DELIBERATELY kept Tunsil as a backup to Dallas Thomas all of last preseason because he hadn't 'earned" the job or some such nonsense.

Third, not having a backup plan for the Pouncey Situation other than Urbik and Steen is just depressing Crying or Very sad

Fourth, it would suck hard for Drake to lose *both* position battles he's involved in.

I've been following the minicamp and OTAs, sounds to me like Drake isn't always playing his role correctly on offense. Got to run the right routes and make the right blocks if you're going to carve out a role behind Ajayi, and beat out Damien Williams too.

I agree....a hearty thanks for the post.

Williams vs Drake for 3rd down back. I like Drake's speed, but Williams seems to have really picked up the Gase offensive system IMO.

Urbik vs Steen - Steen was playing very well until the leg injury. He never looked the same after that. Urban is a cagey vet. Who knows? Not if but WHEN Pouncey goes down this year, maybe one of them can step in and the Phins will not miss a beat.

Jakeem Grant vs Drake - Grant's ball handling makes me nervous. He needs to be toting a football around with him ALL THE TIME, 24/7!!! Drake can do this job, but I would prefer he is the 3rd down home run hitter RB.

Andre Branch vs Charles Harris - I expect Branch to hold onto this spot and Harris to be a situational pass rusher at the start, but hopefully that changes and Harris becomes the full time guy before too long.

Mike Hull vs Raekwon McMillan - Hull doesn't exactly make me harken back to the days when he Phins had greta LBs...er...when was that again? Anyway....Hull ain't all that, but he does know the system, and McMillan is a rookie. And Koa Misi is still in the mix? WHY for frack's sake????

Bobby McCain vs M. Thomas - Yikes! McCain just has not "ball in the air" awareness IMHO. Thomas tries to outthink the competition too much and gets caught leaning it seems to me. Let's hope both of them improve their play this season.

Nick Williams - Godchaux - Taylor - Alright, it is early, but I think this position battle means next year, DT is gonna be a top prioirity. Yeesh!

Byron Maxwell - Tony Lippett - Cordrea Tankersly - Maxwell looked better after the demotion, but I still think he is just OKAY. Tippett at least has shown flashes and should improve. Tankersly.....who knows?

Darr vs Haack - I hope Haack wins this. I want LEG...booming Leg that lofts them so high it interferes with the blimp flying overhead!

Doughty vs Fales - I like Doughty. Something about a weak-armed Qb that keeps fighting and scrapping against overwhelming odds. He is a....doughty.... competitor. Very Happy Plus, haven't the Phins had enough FAILS at QB?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I just hope above all else, Gase continues his football team whispering.

LMAO!!! FF's still got it after all these years cheers

I'm still in shock and awe that he got THIS bunch of bumblers, busts and bums to the playoffs Shocked Shocked Shocked

Seriously, the '16 Fins might have honestly been the weakest playoff team in NFL history. They're in the conversation, at least.

I hear an underrated, slow, white, wide receiver has been turning heads in OTAS's, yes, I know we have seen this many times in past (see, Kirby DarDar, Larry "poor man's Randy Moss" Shannon) and countless others. Drew Morgan has been getting rave reviews. Should give Caroo and Grant a run for one of the roster spots at WR.

I really just wish they would move past Koa Misi. He MUST have pictures of someone. No other reason.

I've seen the same. Universally cited as making plays in each practice the media has witnessed, and Gase spoke highly of him. Also, Ford got some props after this week's minicamp. I believe Caroo and Grant are very much in jeopardy, from an undrafted rookie and a 7th round pick. No matter. Scott took Caroo's job last season - so if they continue to play well and show playmaking in preseason games, they will get those jobs.

I really just wish they would move past Koa Misi. He MUST have pictures of someone. No other reason.

I believe this is an act of benevolence by the team because his neck injury is career threatening. They are giving him every opportunity to return to full health. Also, there is likely a hefty injury settlement pending his release. I see very little chance he gets on the field this season. It will be Alonso - Timmons - McMillon - Hewitt - Hull in some mixture of starters, packages and depth.

I agree with the first part of that. No doubt they're not wanting to look bad by just cutting Misi, and he's being too damn stubborn to just quit because millennials these days just want to be as annoying as humanly possible--and even beyond that.

But what scares me is that Gase might actually let Misi start a few games before finally realizing what a bad idea it is, with the Fins at 1-4 or something. The precedent was set last year with the Thomas And Turner Show. Am I really supposed to believe they suddenly became too horrible to remain on the team after 5 games or however long it was? Puh-lease Rolling Eyes And if Misi gets hurt again then get ready for all the stories about how 'heartless' the Fins are, and for the media to suddenly pretend they're the only team in NFL history to ever trot out players who clearly had health issues. Hell, they already pulled that shit with the Moore Incident, remember?

I'm tired of all this "earn it" talk when guys are clearly being allowed to remain on the roster and even start because Gase feels sorry for them and is afraid to hurt their feelings lest the locker room of snowflakes revolt, or something.

Yeah, I'm not so worried about that. From the film breakdowns I can recall watching, analysts have said he's really good about fitting correctly in the run game. In fact, the linebackers pushed into service when he does get injured are clearly a step down. So, I'm not so worried about Misi totally screwing up our defense and contributing to losses.

Rather, it's more a likelihood if he does start that he will get hurt. Because his record proves it is the most likely scenario. As long as we have a viable replacement (and I think we do right now), we'll be okay. Last year, we didn't have the depth at LB we have now. Not close.

I'm just getting warmed up BTW. It's the perfect confluence of Rightchea bringing this place back to life again, summer being my least favorite time of year, and people being determined to piss me off even more than they already have in general. I'm rusty right now, just wait until I get back into proper ranting shape Twisted Evil

OTA and minicamp news is part of it. I'm on vacation for the week of July 4th, and summer is true dead for NFL coverage. Probably won't be until August for any real discussions again.

Welcome back everyone!

Williams vs Drake - Williams holds the #2 RB job until Drake learns to block.  Drake has dynamic playmaking ability - just needs to learn to block and get better at running routes.

Urbik vs Steen - Steen is a waste - poor technique and no strength.  I'd cut him and make Ted Larsen the primary backup center.  Urbik is a semi-solid player that can play all 3 interior positions - he's valuable depth.

Jakeem Grant vs Drake - Grant sucks and should be cut.  Let Drake be the primary returner.

Andre Branch vs Charles Harris - Branch is a JAG and Harris is a one-dimensional pass rusher-only at this stage.  I'm not feeling real good about DE beyond Wake.

Mike Hull vs Raekwon McMillan - Mark my words: if Koa Misi can walk, this job is his. He's like a bad penny...keeps turning up. Otherwise, if McMillan can't beat out Hull from day one he should find a new profession.

Bobby McCain vs M. Thomas - McCain should easily win this battle, but I suspect the primary slot corner will be someone else.

Nick Williams - Godchaux - Taylor - Ugh...the fact that this is a "battle" only highlights how piss-poor the depth at DT is.  This has the potential to be the worst Dolphins' DL ever.

Byron Maxwell - Tony Lippett - Cordrea Tankersly - Ugh again...I don't like any of these guys.  But Maxwell clearly is the best of the three and should win this one easily.

Darr vs Haack - this isn't a battle.. It's Darr's job...period.

Doughty vs Fales - who cares?  Both suck.
