Parker a star in 17? Empty Parker a star in 17?

Post by mercury22nathan Thu Jul 27, 2017 10:11 am

DeVante Parker, WR, Miami Dolphins: Plagued by back and hamstring issues his first two seasons, the former first-round pick out of Louisville is finally healthy. A monstrous target at 6-foot-3, 212 pounds, the 24-year-old Parker is highly explosive and capable after the catch. Ryan Tannehill — whom the Dolphins front office has its own set of high hopes for — will lean heavily on him opposite Jarvis Landry, and anything less than a 1,000-yard, five-touchdown season would be a disappointment for the talented wideout.

1,000 yards and 5 TDs - should we prepare to be disappointed?

"...opposite Jarvis Landry..." they seem to forget the Phins just paid Stills a bunch of money

I will agree he is definitely POISED for a breakout year, and all signs indicate he's got a real chance to have a very good if not great year.

But - BUT - we have to see it happen in the regular season. Too many ifs between now and January 2018.

The potential is definitely there. In FFL I'm targeting him for my #3 WR spot. Should be able to get him late in traditional draft, and in my auction league he should come cheap too.

BTW - this definitely affects Landry too. If Parker DOES breakout, and rings up huge yardage along with a strong number of TDs, then that further forces the question:

Can you really pay ALL THREE receivers at a high level? I'm not sure the salary cap can be managed to do that, and it doesn't really make much sense anyways.

Our DEs right now are relatively cheap, because they are either old or journeymen/unproven. Some of that mad WR money has to be budgeted for the pass rush.

Also, our CBs right now are big time cheap, because 3 of the 4 outside corners are still getting rookie money. Better budget some of that money there too, or get ready to lose Howard when his rookie deal expires - and he's shown some evidence he can be a really good corner.

Finally, both our OTs are on rookie deals also. If James leaves (I think it's a good chance he's gone) we can either start over with another rookie, or find a RT in free agency. Doesn't have to break the bank, but if Tunsil fulfills his projections he WILL break the bank.

The salary cap just keeps going up so much and by the time Parker is ready for a new deal Suh''s deal will be off the books. I don't think money is an issue but I just have this feeling Gates would rather have the Parker/ Stills type of receiver who can score from anywhere. i have no problem letting Landry leave but I'd damn well better get a draft pick or player in return.

Interesting. Does a "tag and trade" still work? Or will it need to be a three way negotiation between the Fins, Landry and a trade partner?

Don't let it come to that. If Stills and Parker play to their potential trade him before the trade deadline.

The real question is...will Tannehill stop keying on Landry? Because if not, Parker isn't having a "breakout" season. No reason for a slot receiver that can't score to have as many targets as Landry does.

But the bottom line with Parker is, show me don't tell me. Getting sick of hearing about his potential.

To be honest Parker has been open times and Tannehill has thrown the ball to him but the issue is he tough enough to play through the pain

As far as Parker forcing a decision at WR, well, that would be a nice problem to have.

So far, so good per the camp reports.

It certainly would. Let's see if he can keep it up when the games count - and if Tannehill can look away from Landry.

funny you mention that...

On Monday, Michael Thomas seemed to diagnose Tannehill’s intentions and burst across the middle for a pick. It appeared to be a miscommunication with Jarvis Landry.

by "diagnose" i assume they mean: wait for him to force it into Landry.

remember when Brandon Marshall used to get in Henne's ear and cause him force passes to him (which he often let bounce off his hands) - given Landry's "competitive" personality, i wonder if that is what is going on here?
