Bad personnel decisions this offseason
It's early in the season, but so far it looks like the Dolphins made some very poor personnel decisions this offseason.
Free agent signings/trades:
Cutler
Larsen
Timmons
Thomas
Hayes
Hayes looks good...all others have been awful additions.
Re-signings/extensions:
Alonso
Branch
Stills
McDonald
Jones
A shit-ton of money paid to players that do absolutely nothing on gameday.
Draft:
We've gotten essentially zero from all draft picks through the first 3 games.
Given that the power structure on this team remains muddied, I don't know if we should place most of the blame on Tannenbaum, Grier or Gase. I think they all suck, but usually the head controls the body...and in this case that's Tannenbaum. Regardless, this offseason looks like it's getting a grade of F- right now.
EDIT: added the Jones and McDonald extensions.

Just remember that Grier is a Pats reject and the Belichick-Brady Era began right after they fired him. That is all.

We all knew what we were getting with Tannenbaum and Grier. Not Ross though, because Ross is either a buffoon or ruining this team on purpose.

Miami been garbage after 2005. For some reason Miami hasn't been able to get back up. The only person that I saw that did something from last years draft was Tank he his play was okay at best. First thing is Miami needs to get rid of the whole scouting team. Next find get Tannabuam out of the draft war room, he is not helping at all

It's pretty clearly on Tannenbaum, but if all I've seen and read is to be believed, then no one can save themselves if this team goes south.
It's supposed to be the top 3 - Tannenabum, Grier, Gase - all in it together with one purpose. Winning.
Ross needs to keep his word on that. That, or he loses more fans than he thinks possible. Give them the time, if that's what he wants. Give them two years. Three. Four. I don't care. But when it's time to decide. When the grace period is far from over and we're in year 3 or 4 or 5 and it's finally time to decide.
He needs to keep them all or dump them all. All at once. No more half-measures. No more keep the GM and find a coach. Or keep Tannenbaum and find a new coach plus new GM. Or keep Gase and fire the front office. No more. All of them or none of them. He has to decide. Because that's what we were sold when this happened. They win or they fail.

100% agree. Tear it ALL down and do a true rebuild. And make sure the entire scouting department is replaced too.
And next time...let's not hire a guy to run the show that is out of the NFL for years because he destroyed a team and no other team would even hire him to clean their offices. And don't hand the GM job to a personnel guy that was on board for YEARS of crappy drafts. And maybe bring in an experienced head coach that has done more than stand by while a Hall of Fame QB runs the offense.

That, that right there, that phrase, that tiny little bit of information, that is what I call precisely hitting the nail on the fucking head.

I said this when Gase was hired...but what did he actually do to earn a head coaching job??? Sure, he was a QB coach for Tim Tebow and made the playoffs...but did he improve Tebow as a QB? Nope - not even a little. And then he was OC for a Peyton Manning offense - which is basically like getting paid to do nothing. And then in Chicago he took a mediocre Jay Cutler and turned him into a slightly less mediocre Jay Cutler (and even that is up for debate) that only won 6 games. I don't know...doesn't seem like head coach material to me.
I'll give Gase credit for the 10-6 season last year, but without a bunch of lucky breaks that could very easily have been a 6-10 season. And now we're seeing what happens when the luck runs out - he's got nothing. Still a lot of season left so all is not lost - but I just see nothing to inspire confidence in Gase.
Re: Bad personnel decisions this offseason
But, it's such a nice tag line, "In Gase we trust". It makes for good internet material. So, after ONE year, we TRUST him? OK. Not buying it. Let him do something to inspire trust and then talk to me. Not just one flukey playoff year. Yes, I said it, flukey.

Re: Bad personnel decisions this offseason
As I see it, the biggest mistake was not putting more of a premium on the interior O-line. Certainly should have tried to address this before the 5th round.
Dorian Johnson is still on the Cards' PS, by the way. But he won't be for long, with Iupati injured. We should have snagged him. You can't tell me he isn't better than some of the guys taking up roster space here right now.
