Is Tannenbaum Secretly A Genius???

Post by DolFan 316 on Sun Oct 22, 2017 6:59 pm

I know, I know, but just keep reading.

Maybe, just maybe, having a team of mostly mediocre to bad starters is the way to go in today's league, because that way if starters get hurt there's very little dropoff. And starters get hurt more than ever before now. Think about it.

And maybe, just maybe, giving away draft picks might not be that bad considering college players seem less prepared in general for the NFL than ever, and these days you can just sign most of the good ones after 4 seasons anyway.

So let teams like the Packers have their seasons wrecked when the star player gets hurt. The Fins don't HAVE any star players, so THERE, league!!! Laughing

I think Tannenbaum is going to replace every Dolphins player that contributed to today’s win. It’s very uncharacteristic of Miami to beat Tannenbaum’s Jets

Are we a power running team or not? Yesterday, we actually put Maulauga in as a fullback for the short yardage play. It worked.

It seems like we started this year trying to be a short-pass, rhythm offense. We couldn't run the ball worth a damn. Now we seem to be trying to get back to the power running game, but we don't have the offensive line to pull it off.

I don't get it. If we are going to have a power running identity to build the offense around, then we should be much better in the trenches. Watching our line run block is painful.

And that's why this team has no identity.  Gase wants this to be a passing team, and he hasn't yet figured out that the key to this offense is actually a power running game.  Gase dabbles in power running, but he hasn't committed to it IMO - not with his playcalling, and not with his linemen.  The OL is still largely finesse and soft...we don't have any road-graders at all.  Maybe Asiata could be a road-grader, but the coaches treat him like he's got leprosy while Bushrod gets praised for stinking up the joint every week.  What we need is a true FB, and tough hog-like linemen.  That's not going to happen this year, and I doubt it will ever happen, but it needs to if we are in fact going to rely on the run game.

Consider this: Ajayi got just two carries in the 4th quarter yesterday, until the final 39 seconds when we just needed to close out the game.  Two 4th quarter carries to your beast-mode RB???  Nope, not acceptable.  Yes, the running game didn't work yesterday - but you can't give up on it, not when you're facing a Northeast team when it's 100 degrees on the field and you're winning the time of possession battle.  We won the game, so it's tough to complain - but if I'm calling the shots I'm putting more trust in my stud RB than I am my backup QB.

Ordinarily that's the rule. But the conventional rules of football just don't apply to a one of a kind gunslinger like Matt Moore Cool Also, they were averaging like 2 yards a carry and stuff.

Yes, I'm still giddy and I won't apologize for it so THERE~! Razz

you haven't heard? the Phins already have a FB.

Gase said linebacker Rey Maualuga’s chance to play one snap at fullback happened Sunday weeks after he suggested it. The Dolphins ran for a first down on that third-and-1, with Maualuga blocking effectively.

“He said something to me three weeks ago,” Gase said. “He said, ‘You know I can play fullback.’ I said: ‘Great.’ It came up again. He was working a lot of areas in the building, trying to get in there. He did a good job.”

Maualuga said he told Gase: ‘Hey coach, need a fullback? I got one yard. I’ll give you one yard. If we need a yard, I’ll get that for you.’ It went like that.”

Yeah, I saw the play where Maualuga was at FB. He had a nice block. Hopefully we see more of it, because an extra blocker is very much needed with this sorry OL. I love the FB position - sucks that it is basically extinct in today's era of spread offenses and finesse running games. With LBs getting smaller these days, a bruising FB could be a nice weapon.

How bout Osaka Polite? He had his minute of fame a few years back for us. Was money on short yardage plays.

I still don't understand why we let Polite go. He was automatic on short yardage. Chalk it up to another failure to recognize talent under whatever wasted coach/GM combo we had at the time.

He spent another few years with the Falcons, now retired:

Like I say, he had his minute of fame, but as I recall, they seemed to catch up to him after a while of just pounding him right up the gut. I think that led to his release. Once his conversion % went way down, he became expendable. Too bad.

You guys do realize that post was made in jest, right?

And let's be real here, before last night it really did seem as if the Fins had as much of a chance at the playoffs as anybody, considering how weak the league is now. And they still could make it. One never knows...

Of course I realized that...anytime Tannenbaum and genius are mentioned in the same sentence, it has to be a joke!

As for the playoffs, why would any fan even want to see this team make the playoffs? We see enough blowout losses in the regular season...no need to see another one in the playoffs. More importantly, making the playoffs only keeps Gase here longer.

I'm not so much on the hating Gase bandwagon as I am about the whole Tannenbaum - Grier - Gase regime.

A beat down season may be exactly what they need. Forget about the smoke and mirrors from last seasons 10-6. Evaluate the template they are using to build this team, look in the mirror and ask themselves if it's really the right way to go.

We heard rumblings a few weeks ago that "major changes are coming" for the offense. At the time, I assumed that meant things like choosing to let Landry walk, no long term commitment to Parker, moving on from Pouncey, Bushrod, James and rebuilding the offensive line.

Then a few wins happened and the topic died.

Well, maybe it's time to resurrect it. For whatever reason, this group (under this regime) is not succeeding as an offense. If it's the players, then rebuild that side of the roster and try again. But you better get it right, because next season is year 3 - even Ross has a limit to his patience.
