Is Drake the future for Miami's RB or not

Post by rightchea on Mon Dec 04, 2017 1:06 pm

We have seen Drake and this game showed that he can ball but at the same time the Broncos are not the greatest team nor are they what they were. Is Drake the truth or is this just an allusion.

I liked what I saw from Drake yesterday. I said this in another thread, but the Broncos came in as the #1 defense against the run, so what Drake did was no small feat.

I'm not sure what Williams status is but it's clear to me that Gase wants two - if not three - running backs who are versatile running and pass catching threats. Willilams - Drake is a good start.

Sure, we could add another running back but my enthusiasm is tempered because:

1. We have a lot of needs on this roster. A LOT. The running back position is not high on anyone's list when it comes to the elite, must-have positions where you have to have top notch talent. An incomplete list, but IMO must take priority over running back: defensive end, tight end, wide receiver (remember Landry is a FA), right tackle, guard, center, linebacker.

2. Quarterback has to be a consideration too. I know Tanny is coming back, but he's old enough you could groom a top notch talent behind him. And who knows, maybe start as early as late 2018. Not that I think we will do it, but I would long before I invested a pick in the first 3 rounds on a running back.

3. The running back position has become a commodity. Fewer and fewer teams are going the old school route of one, elite back. Instead, they are using two and sometimes three running backs to play complementary roles. Kamara - Ingram in New Orleans is an example of one situation going well. I agree with this approach, and would hate to see Miami spend a top pick just to add a back to our backfield.

I think RB is one of many major needs on this roster. I view Drake as a 3rd down back and occasional fill-in. I don't think he's a starter, at all. I don't trust his durability, and I don't know that he's a 20+ carry a game back. I'd let Williams walk in free agency, and draft a back that could potentially start from day one.

That is true about Williams and Miami drafting another RB wouldn't be a surprise

I'd be OK using a multi-back system with Drake and someone else, like the Saints do with Ingram and Kamara and the Eagles and Patriots do with what seems like 10 backs each! LOL Anything that limits Drake's touches is fine with me...he's not built to be a workhorse.

Well Supposedly Miami had another workhorse of an RB that was undrafted but I haven't seen or heard that he even played
