Ndamakong Suh - Keep or Cut?
This is kind of interesting, curious to see where you guys stand on Suh.
The problems with our defense are legion. Bad LB corps, getting weaker and weaker at DE, and no true ball hawking FS top the list.
Suh has been a beast at DT, yet his performances have failed to contribute to a top 10 defense in Miami.
The conventional wisdom has been we are tied to Suh for the term of his contract, but a tweet today from Omar makes me wonder about the details. In short, he called this an opt-in or opt-out year for Suh.

Where do you guys stand? If releasing Suh, what do we do with the freed up cap space and money? If keeping him, what do we need to add around him to improve the defense?

Re: Ndamakong Suh - Keep or Cut?
i wouldn't cut Suh. regardless of the impact of his position, he has played it well. given all the other pieces needed on this defense, i don't think getting rid of him makes much sense. and while the financial burden might be excessive (that's the Phins fault, not his), i believe the impact lessens relative to the overall proportion as the salary cap rises (he's not even the highest paid defender anymore).
now, if the Phins were to get a new experienced d-coordinator who ran a proven, albeit different scheme which Suh didn't fit, then that would be a totally different conversation.

Sportrac doesn't say anything about an opt-out year, and everything I've seen indicates that 2020 is the year we can dump the contract without getting killed with dead money. I have no idea what Omar is referring to.
Assuming that Omar is wrong, there's no issue: Suh remains a Dolphin without question.
The problem with Suh is not his performance. He remains a great player, no doubt. The ONLY issues are that he plays a position that by itself doesn't impact the entire defense enough, and more importantly his contract is terrible. Unless Omar knows something that no one else does, there's really nothing we can do about it short of adding even more $$$ to the backend in a restructure.

Re: Ndamakong Suh - Keep or Cut?
I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that all of a sudden Omar knows something nobody else on the planet does about Suh's contract
My stance on matters like this is usually "if the team sucks with Star Player X, then how much worse could they be without him?" But in this Suh should stay because cap hit.
BTW I never in my wildest imagination thought I'd be pining for the days of Dawn Aponte

I also suspect that the Dolphins' best rookie, Godchaux, might not look so great without Suh next to him...but who knows.

You're not. That's just hysterical over-reactionary crazy talk right there
