Mychal Kendricks

The Eagles released Mychal Kendricks, who has been the subject of trade speculation for multiple offseasons.

Kendricks' departure does not come as a great surprise despite his quality of play for the Super Bowl champions in 2017. He was scheduled to make $7.6 million this year, another likely factor in the team deciding to move on from him.

With his playing time dwindling, the 27-year-old Kendricks asked to be dealt or released last offseason. The Eagles opted to hang on to him, and he ended up making valuable contributions during the team's championship run, finishing with 51 tackles and a pair of sacks. His role increased when fellow linebacker Jordan Hicks was lost to an Achilles rupture in October.

He played 60 percent of the defensive snaps overall.

That's in sharp contrast to 2016, when he was in for just 27 percent of the snaps, as new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz kept him off the field in most sub packages.

The athletically gifted Kendricks has had an up-and-down career since being selected in the second round by Philadelphia in 2012. He posted 86 tackles, four sacks, four fumble recoveries and three interceptions in his second season, but he hasn't been able to reach those same statistical heights in the years since as his playing time gradually declined.

so what's wrong with Mychal Kendricks? he seemed to play pretty well this year? granted the Eagles might not like his $7.6M salary, but hey, the Phins are paying Alonso $9.7M this year? is Kendricks the kind of player to get paid and then disappear or does he just need to be in the right system? could he help the Phins?

I was just about the post these as well.... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

back on Kendricks, he ranked 9th among LB last year. Miami would be stupid to pass up on this guy. They willing to pay that much for Alonso then why not someone that is actually good.

The Eagles have been trying to get rid of him for years now. He's basically a 2-down run stopper, with weak coverage skills. He'd immediately be our best LB, but I don't really see the need to bring in another free agent at this point. We hardly ever use more than 2 LBs on the field at one time, and we are already 4-deep with Alonso, McMillan, Anthony and now Baker. I am not exactly impressed with that group, but for better or worse, I think we are locked in on the LBs we already have.
