Re: Release trade and FA News
Again, not a big deal. They're essentially giving a tryout to a talented young local player who's been in trouble. Maybe this experience with the Dolphins will help him turn his life around...probably not, but who knows? He either cleans up his act and makes it, or he doesn't.
Re: Release trade and FA News
The one thing that looks good is Miami is giving these guys opportunities that they would have not gotten when Gase or Philbin was around. Players like Preston Williams wouldn't have seen the light of day with the old regime but he was a huge part of Colorado State and picking him up means Miami has depth at WR that Miami needs.

Exactly. Nothing wrong with giving a guy a second chance.
Re: Release trade and FA News
Phins signed DE/LB Nate Orchard. He had one monster year in college, but hasn't done much in the NFL. Only 26 years old. Worth a look, but probably won't amount to anything.
Unfortunately, Jamie Collins is going back to the Pats...

Per multiple reports, Connor Barwin will visit the Dolphins.
A second-round pick of the Texans in 2009, Barwin has played for Houston, Philadelphia, the Rams, and the Giants. He has 56.5 career sacks and seven seasons as a full-time starter

Re: Release trade and FA News
I always liked Connor Barwin, but not sure how much gas is left in that tank. If he's healthy and can still move, he could be a valuable part of this team...we'll see.
Re: Release trade and FA News
Isaac Asiata waived/injured. Finally gone...another wasted pick that had zero chance of succeeding in the NFL.
Re: Release trade and FA News
Too bad we didn't take Connor Barwin in the second round in 2009 as logic would have dictated. (Or Max Unger, take your pick.) I think this is at least two or three years too late, but we'll see.

Phins sign DT Adolphus Washington. I liked him a bit when he was drafted by the Bills a few years ago (3rd rd. pick, out of Ohio State). His career has been derailed by injuries. Worth a look...if healthy he could land a spot on a unit that needs help.

Dolphins have signed free-agent defensive lineman Adolphus Washington to a one-year deal, per source.

Yep. Keep filling out the depth chart and see which guys pan out to make the 53 man roster.

I like seeing Miami trying out players during OTA and not middle of the season.

At 6'4" 295, I wonder if they view Washington as an end in 3-4 formations?

For what it's worth, watching Elliott's AAF games I'd say he is a relentless pass rusher. He has excellent body control and it allows him to twist, turn and "get small" to get away from blockers. He has some Cam Wake in him, in terms of being "slippery" and hard to block.
given the Phins' dearth of pass rushing talent, i thought Elliott would at least get a chance.
The Dolphins also announced they waived linebacker Jayrone Elliott, who signed April 9.

i guess leading the AAF in sacks in one things, but being good enough to even try out for the bottom of an NFL roster is another. he didn't even make it to camp.

Re: Release trade and FA News
Too bad about Elliott...I was really hoping he'd land a spot.
If Hurns is healthy, he could be a nice addition. He's no longer the player he was back in 2015, but he'd add some nice size and experience to the receiving group.

Re: Release trade and FA News
Hate to agree with Mando but he has a point. WR was actually a strength on this team. As sad as it is to say that its the truth. The signing to me is simple, and can only be one of 2 things.
1) Parker is exactly who they think he is.........all potential and a no show during games
or
2) The injury to Wilson is a lot more then they are letting on.
I think he's insurance for one or both scenarios. If Parker flashes and Wilson is healthy hard to see them stashing Williams on the practice squad and giving Hurns a shot.

Re: Release trade and FA News
I feel that Miami might be switching WR in and out to keep them from tiring out. but at the same time Parker looks good at OTA and camp but can't produce on the field so that might be what they are watching for

Re: Release trade and FA News
Hurns has mostly been a slot receiver, so he probably has nothing to do with Parker. I think we added Hurns to get better at the position - nothing more, nothing less. He's the only proven veteran receiver on the roster, and he gives us great size in the slot - much bigger than smurfs Wilson and Grant.
This group still has a long way to go, but overall this looks like the best receiving corps the Phins have had in many, many years - especially if Williams and Parker pan out.

Re: Release trade and FA News
five wide look anyone. Stills, Parker, Hurns, Wilson, and William would be a dominant formula

This is from a Tweet from Barry Jackson:
Per source, Dolphins among teams that have made preliminary due diligence inquiry call on former Arizona first round DL Robert Nkemdiche, who was released this week and cleared waivers. Still recovering from Dec. torn ACL; expected to be ready in September.

Nkemdiche was a beast in college, but I remember hearing he had problems even back then.
Give a dude with problems mo money, and suddenly he got many mo even bigger problems IMO.
I say take a firm pass on head cases.
