Re: Release trade and FA News
If this bunch Phins new front office personnel guys goes OL in the 1st round this year, I will be done with them as well!!
Focus on getting some IMPACT. For too long, the Phins have been trying to plug holes on the Line and the ONLY WAY they could even find an Olineman that could half-arsed play was to use a 1st rounder on one.
Bout time they started thinking about getting a Pro Bowl player, someone who makes a difference on the field, a game changer type player, instead of filling a hole with a solid player!!
Yeah, I HOPE they trade down for more picks, but if that edge rush specialist is available, or that honking big DT who can get pressure on Brady up the gut, then draft him!
Remember what it was like to be EXCITED about the Phins draft?
Me neither. It has been so long and I have been fairly sure the Phins front office could screw up an anvil with a rubber hammer when it comes to drafting, that I am expecting them to do something asinine.
So, I am reserving judgement this year, but if they go Online at 13 I think that might cause me to upchuck...even if I think the guy they get is good.
And I agree...while the Jets and Barfalo were out getting their potential franchise QBs of the future, the Phins and Ross were sticking with something that we had already seen was heading down the Dumbstedt chute....again. Just one damn season too late, does the Phins owner decide to kick a nitwit HC to the curb!
Sometimes, the moves you make are bad and end up biting you in the arse, but sometimes, the moves you DON'T MAKE have far worse consequences. Ross not booting Gase a year earlier MIGHT have bitter long term consequences IMO.
As we watch the Phins become the cellar dwellers in the AFC East....yet again.

Re: Release trade and FA News
Many prognosticated a change of scenery was coming the way of receiver DeVante Parker.
Instead, a fresh start under new coach Brian Flores will come to fruition as Parker is close to signing a new two-year contract to stay put with the Miami Dolphins, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday, adding it's worth up to $13 million with incentives.

Re: Release trade and FA News
I have made the decision not to care.
He pans out or doesn’t. I’d bet the house on he doesn’t. Coaches have their egos, that will never change.
Everyone thinks they can fix players who failed under the last coach.
It will be a good lesson for Flores. And it won’t be expensive.

I'm glad to hear that the Phins were interested and made a more-than-competitive offer...too bad they didn't get him. I think Tyrod Taylor will be next on the list.
Beasley is reporting the Phins had no interest in Bridgewater.
Teddy Bridgewater plans to re-sign with the Saints, NFL Network first reported, eliminating another potential free-agent quarterback target for the Dolphins.
However, a source tells the Miami Herald that the Dolphins were not serious bidders for the South Florida native.
Rather, their focus appears to be on Bills-turned-Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who will become a free agent at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Free agency really is a fools errand. Sitting back to watch I'm seeing that more clearly than ever.
I always thought he had potential, but he was never going to reach it on our crappy team. Good for him.
But yeah...the numbers getting tossed around are insane!!
Re: Release trade and FA News
The Parker contract is puzzling...but, on the other hand, we have two receivers (Grant and Wilson) coming off major surgery. There's also rumors that Kenny Stills could be traded. SO we are thin at receiver at the moment.
I guess it makes some sense...new staff wants to see what they have before they dump him. The previous offensive coaching staff was an absolute joke, so maybe the new staff can whip him into shape. Regardless, he gets one last chance to prove himself...he'll either take advantage or continue to suck. As long as no one is counting on him to be a #1, it's not the end of the world.

Interesting. Always conflicting reports this time of year, but I will take Beasley's word.
So, looks like it will be Tyrod Taylor, Rudock/Falk, or a rookie. I'll take it...as long as we shoot for the moon in the 2020 draft.

WHOOOO!! TANK FOR TUA, BABY!!!
Maybe the Fins will finally get it right this time instead of winning themselves out of the top 5 while missing the playoffs anyway. That's how I'm looking at it.

Re: Release trade and FA News
According to this article, Miami offered Bridgewater a 2 year deal a little less than Parker got. Yeah, I'm not surprised he didn't jump at the chance to take it:
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-sp-dolphins-teddy-bridgewater-20190312-story.html
Matches what a writer said earlier, the market for him was "luke warm". That estimate may be a bit hotter than reality.

Re: Release trade and FA News
Glad they made a competitive offer. Bridgewater is no doubt seeing only one O-lineman in place here, and comparing that to what's in New Orleans while keeping in mind that Brees is 40. Makes sense.
Bridgewater was going to get a "prove it" contract no matter where he went, and while I think he can, the prospect of stepping in and playing for Sean Payton in a year or two isn't a bad one.
As for Taylor, he's as good a bridge QB as there is out of the rest available. Why not?

Wake to sign with Titans - a 3-year, $23 million deal with $10 million guaranteed. I thought he'd be looking to go to a better team...no Super Bowl for him.
I think he's overrated by most Dolfans, but still a great player in his prime. A true Phins classic.

The TITANS, Wake?!?! Seriously?!?!
I mean yeah, at least it's not the Pats but at least ACT like you want to get a ring before you retire!!!
I changed my mind, it's starting to irk me now that every other team in the league is making all these moves and the Fins have countered by...re-signing Parker

Re: Release trade and FA News
And...OBJ just got traded to the Browns!! HOLY SHIT!!! Landry must be the happiest man on the planet.
They're not messing around. That offense is going to be insane: Mayfield, OBJ, Landry, Njoku, Chubb and (eventually) Kareem Hunt. Damn.
And on defense...the Browns are going hard after Earl Thomas. And they already added Sheldon Richardson and Olivier Vernon.
On the plus side, the Jets lost out on Anthony Barr and now it seems like CJ Mosley wants to stay in Baltimore!

Nah, Tannehill is gone. They won't be able to trade him at this point, so he'll just get cut. No way they're keeping him around.
Re: Release trade and FA News
I say, let's just grab a couple BMNSOB's (a blast from the past) and plug them in on the OL. Many of the projected top 100 picks are on the OL. Surely, we can find a couple guys there. Put Davis at RT and mix and match the interior three spots with draftees and backups you already have. What about Jake Brendell? Is he still on the roster?

That is hilarious, you would think that the Packers would have learned their lesson when it comes to over paying players.

Jets got Bell! Should be interesting to see how he gets along with Gase. He's a great player, but I'm not sure Gase can ahndle him if he acts up.

Yep, time to dump this finesse crap and load up on the ol' BMNSOBs!!!!
Completely agree - put Davis at RT and let's see what we can do with the interior. Brendel is still on the team, but the guy is always injured. Sounds like they will keep Kilgore...I would have cut him and gone with Swanson. So then we'd need two guards. Seems like there's a lot of good ones in this draft that could be around later...also some good RTs.
Re: Release trade and FA News
Phins sign Patriots' DB Eric Rowe to a 1-year deal. He's injured a lot, but a decent player when healthy. Big and physical, can play CB and S. We'll need a lot of DBs for this defense, so no complaints on this signing. Could be a very nice pick-up if he can stay on the field.
Re: Release trade and FA News
Armando now speculating that the Bridgewater-to-Miami deal may not be dead just yet...
https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/armando-salguero/article227495979.html
could something still be in the works?
Depending on whose source you believe, the team either showed “very serious interest” in New Orleans backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater recently but was rebuffed by a South Florida kid who apparently preferred to stay as a backup in New Orleans for less money...
...Or the Dolphins showed some, but not huge interest in Bridgewater, as I was told.
(And I say this in all transparency, none of this Bridgewater episode feels right to me. Competitors don’t simply give up a chance at more money and a chance to start without there being something else amiss, so that casts doubt on the NFL Network reporting. But, teams also don’t go to agents with half-hearted interest for players they really want because that’s just lame and it can offend, so I’m questioning what I’m being told, too.)
Either way, Bridgewater was not signed with anyone as of late Tuesday night. And he didn’t need to wait until 4 p.m. Wednesday to make it official.
So this feels like people on both sides were posturing.
And maybe Teddy Bridgewater is still available to Miami before he actually signs. Maybe he still ends up in Miami.

Re: Release trade and FA News
That Bridgewater situation is very strange. I know there's tons of misinformation this time of year, but I was wondering the same thing that was brought up here: why would Bridgewater turn down more money AND a chance to start? Seems odd.
Then again, in New Orleans whenever Brees retires Teddy is pretty much guaranteed the starting job - but in Miami, he's not really guaranteed anything beyond this season. What if he signs here and we trade up for Tua next year? Then he's screwed.
