DirecTV
Just made my yearly call to DirecTV to get a discount on Sunday Ticket. $9 a month for the 6 month billing cycle.

I got a similar deal when I called them a couple of weeks ago. They said they couldn't directly discount the Sunday Ticket price, but they did give me $50 a month savings on other things, so I am essentially paying $9 a month for the Ticket They also threw in 4 months of Showtime.

The guy I had was really cool. I told him that I need to get the price down because the Sunday Ticket cost was insanely high. I told him I was going to downgrade to a lesser package and get rid of HBO. The guy told me "I never want to come between a man and his football team, so let me see what I can do." He put me on hold and came back with all these discounts that enabled me to keep my current programming, including HBO, and still get a huge savings.
I would suggest that if you don't get someone "good" on the first try, hang up and call back and work with someone else.

I guess I could've gotten a better deal but $9 a month is better than full price.

I called today and they dropped the monthly price by $12.50, and ended up getting me a monthly savings of $100.00+ because we have all the stupid bells and whistles. When we move, they said they'll drop the price again.

Feh. If not for my TV junkie GF I might just get rid of DirecTV altogether. Not because of poor service, but because I'm being charged over $110 a month for content that is pretty much hot garbage. Even the GF gets sick of what TV has to offer sometimes.

Honestly, 316, I'm in the same boat. I think with the internet becoming a bastion of programming that we're about to have a big drop in cable/satellite pricing, a la when the phone companies finally stopped charging per minute for long distance because of all the 10-10-321 lines and the like.

The key is to say, "Can I talk to someone in Retention? I'm thinking of dropping some services and changing my package because my bill is too high."
