LaMike take a hike
he's been cut.

The Dolphins had a decision to make on LaMike James - and they cut him as announced on Monday. This wasn't a surprise considering he had his punt-return role taken away after fumbling in the final preseason game and then fumbled a kickoff Sunday. It's asking a lot of Jarvis Landry to return punts (as he did to a game-winning standards Sunday) and be a full-time receiver. He clearly was worn out after the game. So James was in trouble even before he fumbled a kickoff Sunday. So now the search is on to find a return man, you would think. Either that or Landry better rest up.

Re: LaMike take a hike
I still can't understand how James lasted as long as he did. Maybe he's a nice guy, but he sure isn't an NFL player.
There are literally tons of unemployed returners that excelled in college yet never got a chance in the NFL. I can't believe how much trouble the Phins have in idendtifying just one of these players. It's been an issue for years.
And - as great at the Landry TD was - you can't keep using him as a returner if he's going to continue to take nearly every offensive snap. Landry is the best player we have on offense, and IMO it's foolish to add to his workload by making him a returner as well. Just sign a damn return specialist...it shouldn't be difficult.

Looks like the Phins are doing what I hoped:
I still think they could have found someone better, but I'm interested to see what Mostert can do. I don't think he returned punts in college, though, just kicks as far as I know...not sure if he did both with the Eagles this summer.
BTW, TE Jake Stoneburner was called up from the practice squad...I guess we can expect Sims to miss some time. I just hope Sims is OK...it was scary for a few minutes there yesterday.
Brett Tessler @TesslerSports
The Miami Dolphins are signing Raheem Mostert (RB/KR, Purdue) to their 53-man roster off the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad today.

Re: LaMike take a hike
Agree on Sims. Wide open and a bad throw by Tanny there, looked like he may have "broken" one of his TEs. Hopefully a concussion, but mild. Initially I was worried he hurt his neck - badly.

Yeah, he was just lying on the ground with his body twisted in an awkward position, not moving. I thought it was going to be really bad.
That pass from Tannehill was just horrible. Sims was wide open too. Gotta make those plays when we face the big boys on the schedule.

Re: LaMike take a hike
Agreed. Tannehill cannot be happy with his performance yesterday. He was so sharp in preseason, too.

So, here's where we are at:
LaMike James, Sam Brenner and Jonas Gray (!!!) have all ben cut.
Raheem Mostert was signed, and TE Jake Stoneburner and OL Jacques McClendon were called up from the practice squad.

Re: LaMike take a hike
The fight Landry and James had right before the game might have had a little something to do with it as well methinks.
Was it "Pat White seriously might be legally dead" bad? I'll never forget that play.
WHAAAAAAT?!?!
Why the hell did they even sign Gray to begin with?!?! And WTF did Brenner do?!?!
This is the Ireland Roster Churn all over again. Literally and completely pointless.

Landry needs to be #1 WR not also return punts full-time.

No, not as bad as that - that was the worst ever. The Sims injury was different, because no one hit him. He just stretched out to try and make a play on Tannehill's awful pass, and he hit his head on the ground. There was a huge chunk of grass ripped up where he hit...it must have been really hard. The way he landed, his shoulder was at a really bad angle, and I guess because he was knocked out it made it look like a really serious injury.
Of course, since the Dolphins never release any info about injuries, we may find out a week or two from now that Dion Sims is actually seriously injured and out for the year.
Re: LaMike take a hike
Lots of folks are blaming Tannehill for Sims' glass jaw. Sure, it was a shit pass, but he got knocked out on a grass surface. Football ain't what it used to be.

Re: LaMike take a hike
I hope they do not get Landry hurt on Punt Returns.
But that was one pretty run right up the middle!!! Not even touched!!
Yeah, it used to be the only thing we had to worry about on a Tannehill deep throw was he might hit an innocent bystander on the sideline! But now that he has IMPROVED on his deep throwing, we have to worry that the Phins receivers are going to get injured diving for his IMPROVED but still off target heaves!!!
That heave to Cameron where he had to lay out had me going "NO! Not the guy with the concussion problems!!!"

Re: LaMike take a hike
Sort of ironic that a Dolphin TE got a concussion - and it wasn't Cameron!
Seriously! I was screaming at Cameron - "Just let it go, just let it go!" I don't need to see him diving, not with his concussion history.

Re: LaMike take a hike
Does anyone else see Cameron and first think about Cam Cameron. I think yes! Cameron deserves a concussion! But why are we talking about him? That season is burned on my brain.

The Dolphins TE screws with me in three ways:
1. His name is constantly confused with the defensive end, Cameron Jordan. I've never confused them personally, but I definitely think of them both when I hear either name!
2. His first name puts thoughts of Dion Jordan in my head - and that ain't pleasant.
3. His last name makes me think of Cam and the worst season in Dolphins history.
Regardless, I just hope Jordan Cameron kicks some ass and actually makes it through the entire season.
