Tannehill Empty Tannehill

Post by Birdmond Mon Oct 05, 2015 2:05 pm

Anybody have a link to the story about Tannehill's altercation with the scout team defense? Sorry I'm restricted to phone posting today. Anyway if he really said " enjoy those scout team paychecks" , he's dead to me.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/dolphins-blog/sfl-quarterback-ryan-tannehill-had-feud-with-dolphins-defense-20151005-story.html

Joe Philbin apparently lost control of his football team far before Sunday's 27-14 loss to the New York Jets.

During Saturday's walk-through practice in London the Miami Dolphins defense took offense to derogatory comments quarterback Ryan Tannehill made to the scout team defenders, and eventually stopped practicing during the dry run for Sunday's game.

Multiple sources say Ryan Tannehill had committed a couple turnovers early into Saturday's walk-through and was bothered by scout team defenders intercepting his passes.

During an exchange with linebacker Chris McCain, who picked off a poorly thrown pass from Tannehill, the team's starting quarterback told the defenders "enjoy your practice squad paychecks," a source said.

An altercation ensured, and once Miami's coaches got things under control the Dolphins defenders aggressively went after more of Tannehill's passes, disrupting the offense's rhythm.

When the defenders were told to stop running full speed during the walk-through work the defense stopped running all together during Tannehill's snaps.

Tannehill, who received a five-year, $95 million contract extension this offseason, completed 19-of-44 passes for 198 yards. He averaged 4.5 yards per attempt with two touchdowns and two interception, which both occurred in the end zone.

Tannehill's performance against the Jets produced a 53.0 passer rating, which was his seventh worst performance of his career.

The incident, which was first reported by the National Football Post, created more division between the offense and defense.

Philbin was fired on Monday and the Dolphins will name tight end coach Dan Campbell the team's interim coach.

I just saw it too. Not sure if it's true, as it comes from a guy that covers the Texans, but if it is true it makes Tannehill sound like a whiny little bitch.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/sources-say-tension-with-dolphins-had-been-mounting-for-weeks-in-practice/

Frustrations have been mounting for weeks, and escalated Saturday during practice prior to the game. Philbin has also been struggling on how to handle his franchise quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, who had been getting rattled even in practice sessions.

On Saturday during practice, Tannehill, after a couple of practice squad players forced turnovers, Tannehill made negative comments toward them, including saying: “Enjoy your practice squad paycheck, enjoy your practice squad trophy.”

Sources say this has been going on for the past few weeks as the practice squad players have been intercepting Tannehill and frustrating the former Texas A&M wide receiver turned quarterback.

...

Philbin told the practice squad players to take it easy on Tannehill to not affect the young quarterback’s confidence.

This truly sounds like a load of crap to me, but who knows? The way this team operates, it really wouldn't surprise me.

That sound likes a made-up story from reading that, Stoneburner came from the practice squad and has 2 touchdowns. I could be wrong.

But here it is.  http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/sources-say-tension-with-dolphins-had-been-mounting-for-weeks-in-practice/

maybe that's why Suh wore sneakers to the padded practice...he was taking it easy.

defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh wore sneakers to a full-padded practice on Thursday. A “prominent handful” of teammates viewed the choice in footwear as an expression of dissatisfaction with defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle.

Omar Kelly is saying the same thing, and has more details that make it sound believable:

If true, QB once again becomes this team's biggest need. No

I was talking about Suh sneakers thing in the post above.

Tannehill might have just been frustrated and having a Bad day, But a Real Coach would have corrected Tannehill in front of the whole team and said we won't baby you and everyone will play 100% in practice.

Maybe the OL hates Tannehill as well. That's why they won't block for him. I actually read that main reason Troy Smith failed in the NFL is nobody could stand the guy.

I don't have any problem with the player on the team who's frustrated with his s***** team saying something in practice. I don't read too much into that crap, because essentially these are all young arrogant pricks for the most part and they say stupid s***. We'll see how it plays out, but if Tom Brady had said this I don't think anybody would care. That is, outside of the people that hate Tom Brady.

so the Phins have a QB that gets all pissy when the practice squad picks of his passes...

and a defense that can harass their own QB, but nobody else's. great.

I also saw the same story on Bleacher report as well. I not surprised. If the defense is causing issues to the O-Line that is creating INT's then who fault is it really.

I also saw this.....

Aaron Wilson wrote:It was an extremely tense week in London surrounding the Miami Dolphins prior to them being embarrassed by the New York Jets and subsequently firing coach Joe Philbin upon their return to the United States.

The frustration for Tannehill stemmed from the entire situation as well as the Dolphins haven’t won a game since the season-opener. Tannehill is an extremely competitive person, and the struggles of the offense have angered him significantly.

Dayum...Campbell needs to have a come to Jesus meeting with that boy ASAP Shocked

It would explain a lot about the O-line play though. Speaking of which, anyone else hear about 2 years ago ex-Lions O-lineman Lomas Brown straight up admit he tried to get Scott Mitchell hurt during games? I always suspected O-lineman were like that, just from years of watching games where they'd block like shit for the starter and then when the backup came in suddenly there was an impenetrable fortress in front of him.

with all this talk of Philbin having the defense take it easy on Tannehill, it almost sounds like Campbell was speaking directly to that issue...

Dan Campbell:

(On if it’s fair to assume that he hasn’t seen the team go after it enough during practice here) – “I would say that that’s fair to say. What we’ve done a good job of is being mindful of the fact that we’re trying to keep these players fresh and ready to go on Sunday and who wouldn’t? We still have to be able to approach it that way, however, I feel like there’s a lot more that we can get out of these guys and we need to get out of these guys. We need to change the culture such, just like I said earlier, where it is so competitive on Wednesday, Thursday and maybe even Friday that these guys – it is very intense, it is very heated, it may even teeter on the fact of having to break a few things up, but that is when you really get good, that is when the juices start flowing, that is when you get the most of your players, is when they’re having to compete during the week because you can’t just go through the motions on Wednesday, Thursday, even Friday and then you just turn it on Sunday. It doesn’t work that way, it just doesn’t. You want to get the most out of them, you have to challenge them, they have to be challenged. That goes from the best player we have on this team, to the one that’s not the best, OK? (Center) Mike Pouncey, as great as he is, he needs to be challenged every day, he needs somebody that’s going to push him every day and is trying to beat him every rep, that goes for every player, I don’t care if it’s (DT Ndamukong) Suh, I don’t care if it’s (LB) Koa Misi, I don’t care if it’s (WR) Jarvis Landry, they have to be pushed and they have to be worked, they have to be challenged and that’s the first thing that I’m changing. I’m going to challenge these guys and I want them to have to compete."

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2015/10/this-what-people-said-on-mini-black-monday.html

Campbell pretty much said that Philbin's approach is the wussy approach and wasn't working. i hate to say this, but you know what's coming... after the practice squad forces Tanny to curl up in the fetal position, get ready for "uber-competitor" Matt Moore. Campbell knows he's on a 12-game desperation mission and has no reason to stay loyal to Tannehill - especially being a former player where there is a tendency to value the older veteran.

If Campbell turns to Moore expect a TON of absolutely meaningless wins, maybe even enough to go 8-8 again. Moore is the absolute master at that.

And if Moore can no longer even get meaningless wins, that's a sure sign he no longer belongs in the league.

Right now I don't even care if Tannehill's benched, to be honest.

Moore won't start unless Tannehill is injured. Moore is a classic Fireland/Philbin square peg/round hole player. He's absolutely not a fit for the offense we currently have, and it's too late in the season to completely change the scheme to adapt to Moore.

I have a Story about being told to tone it down. When I was in High School in West Virginia I played Center for the basketball team and being 6' 3" if You came in the Lane I would try to Block your Shot, While one day I was Blocking a Shit load of Shots probaly close to 15 when The Coach blew the whistle stopped Practice and said Kevin I know You can Block Shots so You can quit doing it for the rest of the Practice, Talk about being a Kill-joy

Is anyone surprised?

That whole overblown BullyGate thing was the same thing; Philbin not having a clue how to handle a team or a locker room.

It is the Dave Wannstedt Syndrome all over again....at some point, the team realizes the HC is a complete goober, and starts tuning him out and openly disrespecting and/or ignoring him.

Philbin had one full season too many, and keeping him for the 2015 season has ruined THIS SEASON too. And likely means another rebuilding effort.
