My Dolphins mock draft Empty My Dolphins mock draft

I'm not forecasting any trades, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the Phins move up or down in the 1st, and I'm sure they'll move around a lot later in the draft.

1 Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
2 Benardrick McKinney, LB, Mississippi State
4 Stefon Diggs, WR, Maryland
5 David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa
5 Mark Glowinski, G, West Virginia
6 Durell Eskridge, S, Syracuse

I do think the Phins would take Gurley at 14 if he's there, but I think he'll be off the board long before then.

I think Waynes and McKinney are day one starters. Diggs will man the slot, allowing Landry to line up outside. Johnson could be the 3rd down back right out of the gate. Glowinski is a future starter at guard, and Eskridge gives us a huge, tough safety to develop for the future.

No issues with it - but I have become obsessed with Gurley.

I'll just be disappointed if he doesn't fall to us. If he does and we fail to take him, I will be very upset.

Same here, on all counts!  In my latest mock I have Gurley going to Atlanta at 8...sure hope I'm wrong and he falls to us.

See my full round one mock in this thread: https://dolfancave.forumotion.com/t28-jmp-round-one-mock-draft-2-0

BTW - medical re-checks for draft prospects will happen this weekend. Gurley will be there, so that should give us a better idea of where he's at in his recovery.

I'm a fan of this draft. Diggs AND Johnson are steals and I could see either one being surprise Offensive Rookie of the year candidates.

I really like David Johnson. Strong runner and the best receiving back in this class IMO. He should really go higher than the 5th, but this is a deep RB class and some good players will fall.

i love the first 2 picks of Waynes and McKinney and agree that they would be day one contributors. i love the idea of trying to get a playmaker in Diggs, but his durability issues concern me - and he wasn't much of a route runner at MD.

Here's a list of al the Rbs drafted at #14 or higher since '08.

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/draft-finder.cgi?request=1&year_min=2008&year_max=2014&type=&round_min=1&round_max=30&slot_min=1&slot_max=14&league_id=&team_id=&pos_new=rb&college_id=all&conference=any&show=all&order_by=

So tell me, were any of these guys worth it? I remember when McFadden was being talked about like he was Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and Jim Brown rolled into one and look how that worked out. Same thing with Richardson. Hell, after that bomb of a pick I personally would never EVER take a RB in the top half of the first round again! Is Gurley really going to be that much better than any of these guys? Seriously?

Agreed, but those are the types of players you get in the 4th. I don't think the Phins view WR as being as big an issue as some of us do, so I'm guessing that unless they can land one of the big 3 in round 1 they'll wait till later in the draft.

Yep, I think so, as long as he stays healthy. And again, we'd be taking Gurley at pick 14...later than every back you referenced and a spot in the draft where you're hoping a top prospect falls so you can get him cheap. In this case, Gurley is that top prospect. Again, if he's there at 14, he's the best player regardless of position.

I don't care about list or other teams lack of success drafting RB's in the first round. My eyes tell me Gurley is a combination of AP and LT. Now I'm not going to lie, the knee scares me but Frank Gore has had the procedure twice and shows no signs of slowing down. I'd prefer any of the top 3 WR's but if their gone Gurley is my pick.

Birdmond raised an important point. I too would prefer one of the top 3 WRs, my preference for Gurley assumes they are all off the board.
