Did I catch the ball?

Yesterday I saw the worst collision I've ever seen in sports. A catcher and first baseman in a softball game both running full speed to catch a foul ball. Both going head first for the ball and colliding head first into each other. The sound was like a bat hitting a watermelon. One girl went into convulsions while unconscious. Both girls taken from the field by ambulance. The girl that was convulsing had regained consciousness. As she was going by me in the stretcher I heard her ask her mom, "Did I catch the ball?"

The intensity level of youth sports has gotten rather disturbing for me. Whenever my two nephews' teams win, my sister and her friends celebrate on FB like it's a major life accomplishment. Their attitude is basically, "YAY!!! We beat those other loser kids, and that means I'm a better mom than their moms are!" I'm just turned off by it.

And when my younger nephew loses, he bawls like a baby the rest of the day. This generation deals with adversity worse than anyone else I've ever seen.
