a few nuggets on some young players:

apparently, recovering from a foot injury hasn't been the main thing holding 1st round pick, DeVante Parker back...

As the Dolphins begin preparation for the game, Parker is not expected to be part of the four-wide package. He's not expected to be a big part of the three-receiver package. And, obviously as he's clearly the team's No. 5 receiver now, he's not going to be widely used in two-wide package.

In other words, if he plays at all, it will be as a sub on occasions.

Parker got six snaps against the Tennessee Titans, 18 snaps against the Texans, and four against the Patriots before he injured his foot.

The reason Parker has had such a minor role, even under new coach Dan Campbell, is he has not shown in practice that he's consistent. Campbell has said he makes a big play on occasion. But the gap between those good plays is too wide to trust him more in a game.

The Dolphins want more good plays more often in practice before he gets more plays in a game.

its starting to appear that perhaps Parker wasn't quite as good as advertised.

and it looks like Campbell realized that switch to LB for Chris McCain was a mistake...

The Dolphins moved McCain from linebacker to defensive end when Campbell took over as coach nearly a month ago. McCain said he initially learned about the position switch from a fan on Twitter, then confirmed it with Campbell the next day.

He’s happy about the switch because at defensive end “there’s not too much thinking. You can play freely and loose…. That’s what we all wanted. That’s what we’re getting under [Campbell].”

Because McCain thought he would be playing linebacker, he dropped from 257 to 243 pounds over the past several months. Now he’s trying to get back to 257 so he’s better equipped to play defensive end.

...and note that this was BEFORE Wake got injured (not a reaction to that injury).

and finally, might this help the Phins woeful short-yardage and red-zone running game?

Ajayi would seem to be an appealing option on goal-line runs. Last season, Ajayi led all college running backs with 25 red zone touchdowns and had the second-most red zone rushing yards (299, on 2.74 per carry).

According to ESPN’s KC Joyner, Ajayi and Melvin Gordon were the only two running backs that broke at least 60 tackles last season.

it couldn't hurt, could it? then again, neither could some decent blocking.

Parker looks more and more like a wasted pick each day. The injury is a definite concern, regardless of what the team is saying. But - if the kid is healthy, let him play. It's not like our receivers are exactly tearing up the league on a week to week basis, and Parker has the size and physicality that is otherwise lacking on offense. I don't understand why he can't be used in the red zone, if nothing else.

The past two years I've seen many rookie WRs tear up the league, but out first round receiver can't even get on the field. It's a HUGE issue, even if the Phins want to pretend that it's no big deal. Aside from the foot injury, maybe the truth is that he's just not very good???

As for McCain, he was never going to be a legit 4-3 LB - I have no idea why the coaches thought he could be. He does not possess the skills to play that position. He's either a 4-3 DE, or on another team maybe a 3-4 OLB. I don't think he's a very good player either way, but at least he has a chance as a DE.

As for Ajayi, my expectations for him are very low. He has no outside speed and he was a fumbler in college. He also can't block, which will definitely impact how much he plays. But, he can't be a worse runner than Williams and Gray - can he???

Devante Parker WAS a great prospect before his injury in his last year. After that, the scope of it, because it was a foot injury, all of that, should have warded the Dolphins away from him. Even if he does become a productive receiver, the Dolphins needed help immediately. There were many people available that could have come in and made an immediate impact, LINEBACKERS, and we should have picked one of them.

Parker's pick was just too much of a gamble with that particular injury.

Well we know that thinks are going to be interesting whenever Miami finds a new coach. I really hoping that Campbell sticks for the fact that he knows who needs to be replaced and what position needs to be upgraded.

Parker keeps on sitting and hopefully he will figure it out that it isn't his foot it could just be an attitude adjustment is needed. Some Players get that Big Head when the Play Great in College that the NFL Will be easy and it isn't.

That could be true. Parker might be another bust player that was good in college but piss poor in the NFL. SHould have went after Hurns last year so Miami wasn't force to pick up a WR this draft.

Hopefully it is more of an NFL adjustment than a foot issue. Rookie WR's are coming in and lighting it up right away in some cases, and some others take a year before the light bulb comes on. Here's hoping it is the latter in Parker's case.

From what I saw of him in college, Parker's biggest issue is poor route running. That's the case with most rookie receivers, but some learn to run routes quicker than others - and some never learn at all. In college these guys are often facing inferior competition, so running precise routes isn't necessary. The NFL is completely different...if you're not where you're supposed to be at the right time, timing is thrown off and the play is doomed.
