WR Greg Jennings visiting Phins today

I wanted the Phins to sign Jennings a few years back when they instead chose to throw the bank at Mike Wallace. I thought Jennings would be a much better fit for the offense I thought Philbin would run.
But now in 2015...I'm not too excited about adding Jennings. He would add a much-needed veteran presence and he's a good route runner...I just don't know what he's got left in the tank. If he's cheap I have no problem adding him...but if the Phins don't sign him I'm fine with that too.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I guess it's great to have veteran depth, and I don't think he'd be too god awful expensive. Who knows, maybe it'll be a good fit. Last year I was much more into Jennings as a signing. This year I can see it, but I guess I'm worried about productivity.

It may not even matter much, because if last year is any indication, only two WRs are going to see a lot of targets. Chances are, it will be the Landry-Stills show, with a TE (Cameron if healthy, or Sims) getting a lot of action too. I don't think the #3 and 4 WRs are going to see a lot of passes.

No harm in signing. He actually had an okay year. Adds a little savvy...

Well, we definitely need a vet to show these young guys the ropes, so in that respect Jennings would be a nice addition. Think about it: our receivers are Stills, Matthews and Landry...not exactly a lot of experience there.
Really not much else out there right now besides Jennings.
Re: WR Greg Jennings visiting Phins today
I wasn't thrilled with the idea of signing Jennings until I looked at his numbers from last year. Pretty impressive for playing with a rookie QB. The way I look at is even at 31 he's better than Hartline or Gibson.

Yep, that's a good point. The goal should be to upgrade whenever and wherever we can, and Jennings would be an upgrade.
Jennings didn't get an offer yet, so I guess we'll see what happens after the draft...
Re: WR Greg Jennings visiting Phins today
Probably a better fit, and would give us better production, than Crabtree.
Welker? I don't know. I think he truly is done after the punishment taken to his small frame.
Pretty sure Miami will try and grab a good WR in the first round, provided one of the first round talents is still available. I personally am still praying that Gurley will still be there for us at #14. Would love to watch an elite runner in Miami again!

Best Veteran Wr on the Market and won't have to worry about being a diva like Crabtree, Hope they can get a Deal done.

I like the fact that'd they actually let Landry develop and become a player. Would like to add another contributor this draft. Don't mind Jennings, just as long as it is not a progress-stopper for a young WR. At some point. We need a big, physical WR. Can't have all smurfs.

Jennings is a Miami Dolphin according to several tweets. I'm pleased.

I'm ok with the signing. I like a saavy get that can move he chains. We need to get in the end zone and quit making Brandon Fields our MVP. I sure hope this does not mean that they think the WR position is now set. We STILL need a modern era, 2000's Alpha Dog Stud to be the main guy. I just think Grampa joe feels content with what we have now.

Good deal, we need the veteran leadership, and he's still got some quality mileage to go on the treads.

Today's signings to me means the Dolphins wanted to be in a position to draft BPA and I applaud the philosophy.

Good signing. Still need playmakers on offense, but we needed a veteran presence.
Re: WR Greg Jennings visiting Phins today
by no means can the WR position be considered as "addressed" but nonetheless, this is a nice, reasonable signing.

Exactly. We got rid of three receivers and now have added two, so we still need at least one more.
I heard Jennings got two years for $8 million, but not sure how much is guaranteed.
Re: WR Greg Jennings visiting Phins today
Jalen Strong in round two would work for me. I will say that I highly recommend watching some YouTube videos on Nelson Agholar. I've become a huge fan.

Re: WR Greg Jennings visiting Phins today
Strong is probably my second favorite receiver in this class, behind Cooper. He's one of those receivers that's open even when he isn't open...he'll fight for the ball and has a big catch radius. He could be a big weapon for Tannehill.
I too like what I see from Nelson Agholor, although I am nervous both about USC receivers in general and players that suddenly jump up draft boards a week before the draft. Agholor is now being discussed as a possible 1st rounder, and he was probably a 3rd rounder (at best) when this whole thing started. But, yeah, he does look impressive. Much faster than I expected.

Actually, the diva receivah one star and a bunch of dross model has been outdated for years. When was the last time a team won the SB with such a player? Even if the guy isn't a TO-style spoiled brat teams can't win with him (see Johnson, Calvin and Fitzgerald, Larry). Besides, this team already went that route with Marshall and Wallace. You win these days with a franchise QB throwing to a multitude of good WRs.
As for Jennings, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt production-wise seeing as he was the only player with over 50 receptions for a Vikings team whose second leading receiver was...Matt Asiata. Seriously.

By comparison, most NFL teams had at least two players with at least 50 receptions, about half had three (including the Fins), and some even had four. Which at least seems to prove my point above

Here's a list of every drafted WR out of USC since 1990. Draw your own conclusions.

I don't care where a player played college ball unless they have the same staff for 20 years. Otherwise, completely irrelevant.

Re: WR Greg Jennings visiting Phins today
Jennings did get 2 years, $8 million. The deal includes a $3 million signing bonus, $900,000 base salary this year, a $3.9 million base salary next year, and $100,000 in workout bonuses.
Unless he has a monster 2015 season, it's hard to imagine the Phins keeping him at that salary next season. So, it seems like a 1-year deal to me. All the more reason to make sure we come away with a quality receiver next week.

interesting stats to chew on...

Barry Jackson wrote:In considering the Dolphins dumping of Mike Wallace and signing of Greg Jennings, it’s notable that their numbers last season were very similar in average per catch and average YAC (yards after catch).
Wallace averaged 12.9 yards per catch, Jennings 12.6.
Jennings averaged more yards after the catch (3.5) than Wallace or Brian Hartline, who were both at 3.3.
Wallace was thrown 20 more passes than Jennings but had only eight more receptions and 102 more yards.
