Coaching Rumor - Shula?
A friend of mine at work mentioned this yesterday, sure enough there is some speculation about this.

I like this writeup. Comprehensive and thorough with some good analysis on each of several candidates:

If Mike Fucking Shula is named the next head coach, that just might be the one thing that causes me to snap and go on a shooting spree.

Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
That Football Nation article is pure speculation, without a shred of evidence. Personally, I think I have a better shot of being hired than Mike Shula. It will NEVER happen, for a variety of reasons - mostly that he hasn't done anything to warrant consideration as a head coach at the NFL level.
The Phinsider list is UGLY. The only NFL guy I like is Frank Reich. Some of the college guys are intriguing, but I don't trust college coaches (they are too quick to jump ship for a better offer) and it's just a total crapshoot because coaching kids is a lot different than coaching multi-millionairre adults.
I would just stick with Dan Campbell, and get two strong coordinators that can work with him.

Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
I second Campbell, JMP.
Let's face the honest truth though. Anyone have confidence if the season continues to get ugly that Ross will see through it and stick with Campbell, even if it's the best move to make? Yeah, me either.

Then again if Campbell really is the right coach going forward, the season shouldn't get too ugly. That's the way I look at it. If the Bills and Jets, who clearly aren't world beaters themselves, both clobber the Fins as badly or worse than the first time, then I for one will be re-thinking the Campbell thing.

Agreed. I could see a beating at the hands of the Pats, and of course it happened on national TV no less, because, you know "Dolphins".
I can see a defeat to Buff and/or the Jests, but I don't see blowouts happening there. Just some effort is all we'll need to compete with them, and I'm not afraid of their coaching staffs. They have just as many problems as we do, and Fitz going down for the Jets is huge.

If Campbell stays I think that Ross won't give him as many chance as he gave Philbin unless he hasn't learned his lesson

Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
Figured I'd add a link here, another coaching rumor this time around Marrone.
One thing really caught my attention here: Some are predicting FOURTEEN OPENINGS for head coaching jobs this offseason. Wow. Damn near half the league!

I rather have Doug Marrone then Shula. I see a lot of teams keeping their coaches this year.

Interesting take on Mike Shula and the job he is doing with Cam in Carolina. Never really been a big fan of his, but the writer does bring out some good points as how he uses his players to their strengths, as opposed to our "square peg-round hole" philosophy.

What a concept. A coach understanding what he has in his tool box, and simply asking his players what works best for them. This is a night and day difference from what we saw with Lazor. Lazor built his philosophy based on how he wanted his team to line up. Not allowing Ryan to audible at the line of scrimmage, is the best and most important argument that can be applied. Whereas Shula has entrusted Cam to alter his team based on what the defense gives him.

Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
If the Panthers win the SB, Shula will be a hot commodity.
I can see Ross thinking that brining back a Shula to the Dolphins would sell tickets and fire up the fan base.
Not to the extent it drives DF316 up into the tower with a rifle, but....

Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
I like Mike Shula a lot. BUT: some people are just meant to be coordinators...it's what they do and they're good at it - but they aren't head coaches. Cam Cameron fits that description. I think Mike Shula does too. I'm not convinced he has the right personality to be a head coach. I'm also not sure the pressure of being a head coach in Miami with the last name of Shula is something that will help him, or the team.
The article mentions Dirk Koetter as OC. I'd be 100% on board - Koetter is exactly what this team needs. He has TONS of experience, and has proven to be creative and adaptable. BUT...he's Tampa Bay's OC right now - why would he leave, even if the Bucs allowed him to (...and they won't...)
And then the article brings up Al Holcomb for DC. While he has done a great job with Carolina's LBs, how is he qualified to be a DC??? He's only been a coach since 2009, and he's only been a position coach for three years. I'm tired of the Dolphins hiring inexperienced coaches that need to learn on the job...after Coyle, I want someone that knows what they're doing.
******************************************************
Speaking of Dirk Koetter, I absolutely LOVE his reaction to a question about analytics:
Now THAT'S a football coach in my world! Unfortunately, with Tannenbaum's love of analytics, the Dolphins aren't going to hire any coaches with that philosophy any time soon.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/11/11/bucs-dirk-koetter-on-analytics-i-dont-need-a-bunch-of-numbers/Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter was asked today if he uses statistical research to prepare the plays he calls. Koetter took umbrage with the question.
“No. I trust my eyes,” Koetter said. “I trust my eyes, OK? I watch the tape. I watch a lot of tape and I trust what my eyes tell me. So I don’t need a freaking piece of paper with a bunch of numbers on there to tell me something my eyes can see. I mean, not to get pissed off, but that whole thing of looking at a piece of paper and telling you how to call a football game is a freaking joke in my opinion. That’s why I watch tape. Half the stuff on that paper, you can sort those stats out any way you want to. But I’m sticking by eyes. It’s worked OK for me so far.”
Now THAT'S a football coach in my world! Unfortunately, with Tannenbaum's love of analytics, the Dolphins aren't going to hire any coaches with that philosophy any time soon.
Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
I have the same reservations about Mike Shula that JMP has, though he would deserve an interview.
I think Hue Jackson, with ties to Tannenbaum, would likely be the frontrunner. Marrone has some ties to him as well.
Though I'm not sure Mike Shula would face the pressure now that he would have years ago. At this stage, why would any Dolphins fan expect anything out of this organization? Shula succeeds, he's a hero; he fails, well, Hell, after Wanny, Saban, Cameron and Philbin, how bad could he possibly be?

Hue Jackson is intriguing. He's done a lot of good things with a lot of questionable parts throughout his career, and he does seem like a leader of men. He's very well-respected around the league, and he has a ton of experience at a range of positions...I like the fact that he did handle some STs and defensive duties while with the Bengals, so he's not one of these guys that will only focus on one side of the ball.
Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
I would be good with Hue, I believe Barry Jackson listed him as someone of interest.

So bad that if he's hired you'll all be thinking of this season as the good old days. Seriously.
On the other hand, Hue Jackson got the Raiders to 8-8. The freaking RAIDERS. That literally might be as good of a coaching job as anything Belichick's ever done. Hell, any of us could win with Brady, a division with the Three Stooges in it, the officials in our pocket (mostly) and the license to cheat like hell without meaningful punishment. But taking the RAIDERS to .500, now THAT's doing some work!!!

Re: Coaching Rumor - Shula?
If the man took the Raiders to .500 then there is a glimmer of hope if Miami get him. I have been hiring a lot of rumor about the lack of leadership in Miami and how Ross is making a Southern version of the Jets since most of the Front Office were from the Jets. SO don't be surprised guys if Ross doesn't hire an old Jets coach.

Yep, way too many ex-Jets involved in this team...I don't like it!

Keep wondering if ole Mangini shows up for an interview. Would almost be too easy...

I have to agree. Tannebaum in Miami whispering into Ross's ear, I be surprised if Miami doesn't go after him.
I know that a lot of ya'll don't want Shula but do you see what he is doing with the Panthers offense. They were horrible last year and now they are running for the record. I thinking that Shula can get the right people in. Plus I feel that Daddy Shula can pull some punches and help out with the rebuild. If anything this will be a good like for Ross and Tannenbaum to many Miami fans.

The next coach has to be a guy that will help develop a quarterback, because either Tannehill, or the guy we draft to replace him, needs development in a new system that isn't a fiery shitbomb that is the Lazor offense.
