Some of those names are flat out ludicrous. Todd Haley?!?! Seriously?!?! Oh wait, let's give the Bengals draft picks to get Marvin Lewis instead, a coach who literally can't win a playoff game to save his life. Oh wait, never mind, bring in KACY RODGERS to be the head coach, you know, the guy who left Miami as the DEFENSIVE LINE COACH just last season! Or how about Jim Mora Jr.? It's not like he's an NFL pariah or anything. Or hell, just reach out and grab Gary Patterson for no reason, that'll work!

(Slaps forehead.)

BTW that pic of McDaniel makes him look like a complete tool. They seriously couldn't find any better one?

Why would Marvin Lewis even be on the list? Doesn't make any sense...there's zero chance that the Bengals are getting rid of him.

Maybe after another 10 years without a single playoff win they *might* consider it Laughing

Seriously, Lewis already has the NFL record for most years coaching a team without a playoff win, might as well go ahead and extend it far out of reach Cool

I thought it was interesting that they put those people up there as well. it was like they were reaching for coaches to look at.

If Lewis hasn't gotten fired after all these years, he won't get fired/traded after what could turn out to be the Bengals' best regular season ever. And who knows...they lose in the wild card round every year, maybe they'll have better luck if they get the #1 seed. Dalton is playing better than he ever has - but will he choke in the playoffs again???

All I know is, I am very interested to see what the Bengals do against the Steelers this week and the Broncos in week 16...those are HUGE games.

But back to the coaching list...I looked at it again, and it looks even worse. All things considered, if we can't land Hue Jackson (I see him going to the Colts if/when Pagano gets canned) we just may be better off sticking with Campbell.

Totally agree this is an underwhelming list with a bunch of really scary candidates on there.

Jackson looks like the best of the bunch, honestly wouldn't object to Patterson simply because he is not a proven failure at the NFL level like several of the others are.

One of the the writeups (forget which coach) was laughable - "Oh sure he failed before as an NFL head coach, but he probably learned something and HAS to be better next time! Right?"

Wow, that's the way to sell your fan base that you're moving in the "right direction"...

I will add Payton as an option that would be several orders of magnitude better than other candidates on this list.

At least Payton has demonstrated he can win. If he has learned the lesson that he can't be his own GM while also trying to be head coach, and we pair him up with the right personnel guy, he can return to the success he had earlier in his New Orleans tenure. That's the one critique I hear about him, how the roster has turned to crap while under his total control. IMO that is totally fixable, assuming he can admit that he needs help with personnel.

Only one "if" there, many less than guys like Haley, Mora and Kacy Rodgers...

Back to Campbell. When you look at this list, it's not a bad idea at all to retain him. We will have to suffer through the growing pains of a green head coach, but what the hell we don't have a franchise QB either and until we find one what are we winning anyways?

Last year was the year to look for a HC.  Bowles and Quinn were excellent candidates overdue for a head coaching job, Fox was a highly accomplished free agent let go in Denver for questionable reasons.  This year's candidates aren't nearly as good overall IMO.

I'd rather stick with Campbell.

As for Marvin Lewis, I'm not making fun of the possibility.  He has 7 playoff appearances in 11 years.  Wouldn't we almost kill for that at this point in Miami?

Completely agree. We held onto Philbin a year too long, and now we're left with scraps to choose from.

As for Lewis - I've never been a big fan of his, but could you imagine if our biggest problem the last 4 years was losing in the Wild Card round every season? I'm sure that's painful, but I'd sure as hell rather have an opportunity to extend our season every year than to just tread water and go nowhere. I remember the days when the Phins made the playoffs every year...it caused heartache, but it was a helluva lot of fun.

I'd rather stick with Campbell also, with JMP's caveat that we go out and get some experienced coordinators to act as assistant head coach, guys who can help him get up to speed. Campbell has the leadership style that will get results in the future, and he's not an idiot. He just needs some time, and quite frankly, if we're going to end up exploding this shit cake all over the kitchen again, we might as well let him stick around and get in on the ground floor of a rebuild.

I'd still take Sean Payton though. I'm not really interested in any of the other candidates at all, particularly not Mike Shula. I know the positives for the guy, but I'm not seeing it with him and the head coach position.

There's one thing I think we can all agree on: whatever choice this team makes, it's guaranteed to be the wrong one, if not the worst possible option.

I'll go ahead and call Mangini now. That's when you'll all realize once and for all Ross is just trolling us.

Omar video segment this week he took the question about Mangini. When asked his opinion, he said "Well, I think he's a mediocre coach and his last team was awful." He continued, basically saying if Ross/Tannenbaum hire Mangini, we are in for a long, long haul of sadness.

Hopefully his viewpoint has reached Ross and Tannenbaum.

I am quite sure ross depends on Omar for advice on the team. Saying this sarcastically, of course, but may not be a bad idea. Maybe not Omar particularly, but whoever his "advisers", they have been not giving the beast advice, to say the least.

Right now I am either pushing for Shula. I even go for Gruden coming to Miami as long as Miami can make it to the playoffs next year.

I know the injuries have been a big factor, but Campbell continuing to trot Damien Williams out there as a KR and not emphasizing the strengths of the players he does have available isn't exactly comforting.

If Shula's last name was anything else and his credentials were exactly the same we wouldn't have many reservations about him.

No matter who we hire, this won't be turned around in one year. This team isn't going to be over .500 before 2017 at the earliest IMO.

Jim Bob Cooter. If he can get the lions playing maybe he can get the Dolphins playing?

Mr Cooter, I love the Name. Welcome Coach Cooter to the Miami Dolphins.

I have been staring at this Space wanting to type a Name in and I can't think of anyone. I Don't think this team has bottomed out yet, So we need someone to take us there. Is Rich Kotite still alive?

According to this article:

http://national.suntimes.com/national-sports/7/72/2326506/add-dolphins-list-teams-interested-adam-gase

Ross has received some high recommendations for Adam Gase.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to considering him. Worked with John Fox the last 3 years, 37 years old, Denver's offense ran smoothly with him and he's doing some good things with limited talent in Chicago.

In addition to Gase, I think Harold Goodwin is worth considering for an interview. Also young (42), has been Arizona's OC the past 3 years (arguably been the best staff in the league during much of that span) and has dealt with a ton of injuries and like Bowles helped keep them winning.

I would not be happy with Gase at all. He's only been an offensive coordinator for a couple of years, and I attribute his success in Denver to Peyton Manning. His Bears' offense is not impressive to me at all...it's a bottom-half of the league offense that has scored just a few more points than the Dolphins. No thanks.

I think Goodwin is a good coach and I like him more than Gase, but again he has only been an OC for a couple of years.

If we're going to hire a young, inexperienced head coach, might as well just stick with Campbell. I don't think Campbell has any shot of keeping the job, so in that case I'd much rather bring in a more experienced coach to run the team. Hue Jackson is still at the top of my list...I'm not 100% sold on him by any means, but I don't see too many viable candidates out there at this point. Bad time to need a head coach, IMO.

HEY!!! Since when is 42 young??? Wink

We all know the next coach will be Mangini. Because this team cannot have enough ex-Jets poisoning the well.
