Wait... WE trolled another team?
Are you telling me one of our interview requests caused the firing of Lovie Smith? Well this is certainly a twist...

Re: Wait... WE trolled another team?
I have to believe that the Bucs were prepared to make Koetter the head coach regardless of what happened with the Phins. It just doesn't make sense to me that a team would fire a head coach just because another team requested an interview with a coordinator. The timing is certainly odd, but I think it's more likely that the Bucs were already working behind the scenes to make this happen.
But - Koetter would have been very high on my list had I known he was an option, certainly I'd put him WAY over Gase...

Sounds like the 49ers and Eagles were also interested in Koetter...
Re: Wait... WE trolled another team?
The Rams did something similar with Dick Vermeil right after their 1999 Super Bowl victory. They were so afraid that they'd lose the great genius Mike Martz that they gently nudged their Super Bowl coach into retirement so they could kick Martz upstairs.
Turns out, Martz got as badly outcoached in a Super Bowl as possible two years later by Belicheat while Vermeil took Al Saunders and backup QB Trent Green with him to Kansas City and basically replicated the offensive results from St. Louis with a far less talented cast.
After that one Super Bowl in St. Louis, the Rams slowly declined under Martz, who as it turned out was a medicore HC. Who knows if they might have had more than just one more conference title under Vermeil and a promoted Saunders? Seems possible.
Be careful thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

We are interviewing a ton of candidates, and he should be in the mix somewhere. Not sure I would be all that crazy about him - or his Tampa 2 scheme - but he may be worth talking to.
At this point, can he assemble a staff? Sounds like he nailed the OC piece in Tampa, as many are enamored with Koetter, but who did he have running his defense?

I want Tannebaum, Grier and the new head coach to share the same vision and believe in the same systems. Tannenbaum and Grier are Parcells dudes, while Smith is a Dungy Tampa 2 guy. Right off the bat, that's a huge disconnect and a recipe for failure. For this reason alone, I wouldn't want the Phins going after Smith - just doesn't make sense.
Re: Wait... WE trolled another team?
and now the Eagles are trying to troll the Phins over Gase...
tweet included in article about disputing Philly's real interest in Gase:

wouldn't that so be like Ross to rush and get a guy who the other team bluffed him into selecting?
Adam Gase "second interview" w/ #Eagles could be a float to push #Dolphins. #Eagles may not be correcting it to conceal Pederson interest.
Contrary to a published report, the Eagles have not scheduled a second interview with Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase for their head coaching vacancy, according to a league source familiar with the Eagles’ thinking.

Re: Wait... WE trolled another team?
The team communicated that building a veteran, experienced staff would be a priority. Regardless of Ross "preference", my guess is Gase totally failed that part of the interview. Hoping so anyways.

I'd look at Doug Pederson before Adam Gase. I always thought Pederson would make a great coach someday.
Re: Wait... WE trolled another team?
Is this the same Doug Pederson that was a third string QB for the Fins and somehow found himself closing out the win by Shula that broke the all-time record?
Damn I'm old.

Peterson has an impressive résumé to me. Wonder why he isn't headlining any of the searches?

Yes.
I still have the photo from Dolphins Digest of the team toting Shula off the field after that victory.
