This teams biggest failure is the ability to judge players and draft a solid team. How could the they promote from the scouting department and figure this guy could turn things around?

Apparently the team rewards you based on how high a draft pick your able to obtain.

Literally the worst decision possible next to naming Aponte as GM. I am now convinced more than ever Ross's goal all along has been to make this team the worst in all of sports.

Oh, it gets better--this guy's dad worked in the Pats' front office during the years they were horrible (90s) and the Pats just *happened* to suddenly get better right after he left in '99.

Get ready for MULTIPLE runs at 0-16. Multiple.

so now that Grier is official, here's what he had to say...

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/miami-dolphins/article53002960.html

“The past decade has been unacceptable for this organization,” he said. “We will earn your trust back, both on and off the field. … The talk of dysfunction within the organization is over.”

He declined to elaborate on his dysfunction comment because “I don’t want to talk ill of people at this time.”

Ireland? Philbin? the only common denominator over the past decade has been Ross - and he's not going anywhere (of course, Grier has been with the team for the last 16 years). well, here's hoping (yet again) he can fix the problems.

Grier, the Dolphins’ director of college scouting for the past nine years, said the defense (which finished 25th in the league) can be fixed in one offseason.

umm, that sounds an awfully lot like he thinks the Phins are 1 or 2 expensive free agents away. 2 CBs, at least 2 LBs, a DE and another S (at a minimum) - and this can be done in one offseason?

He also said quarterback Tannehill “is our guy. We can win with Ryan. We’ve moving on with him.” But he also said “I want competition, not just for Ryan, but … everybody.”

uhh, well, its not really a competition if they've already named Tannehill as "our guy" is it now?

Grier, who will be involved in the coaching search, will report to Tannenbaum, who said it hasn’t been determined who will have control of the 53-man roster.

what? he's the GM but we don't know who will have control over the roster? this is sounding like Grier is just a Tannenbaum puppet. cue the dysfunction theme.

The Dolphins believed there was a good chance Grier would have landed a GM job with another team if Miami hadn’t promoted him.

so this isn't so much about him being qualified to be the GM (not sure how he can stand on his scouting record given the Phins recent history) as the Phins not wanting to lose him to another team. i think things are little clearer. Tannenbaum is taking over the GM duties and Hickey didn't want to be pushed aside into a less effective role, so he left, but Grier seems happy to be Tannenbaum's puppet.

Sounds about right. This is Tannenbaum's team.

It also sounds like any coaching candidate that has questions about Tannehill is going to be immediately out of the running. Which is a shame. Tying yourself to a player that has a career losing record and has never had a winning season is probably not the smartest of ideas.

At this point Ross is just trolling us. He even looks like a troll.

IMO, Grier is just a fill in so they won't have to go through the actual explanation on how Tannabaum became GM when he was just a VP.
