UGH...Phins restructure Maxwell and Alonso, give them more $$$

Things just keep getting worse...so now we are giving Maxwell even MORE guaranteed money and we're giving Alonso a raise!!
It's like a trainwreck that just keeps occurring over and over and over. Pure absurdity.
Maxwell, who was set to receive $18.5 million in base salary over the next two seasons ($11.5 million guaranteed), will now earn just $17 million in salary, but $13.5 million guaranteed, according to sources.
His base salary will be $8.5 for each of the next two seasons, instead of $8.5 million in 2016 and $10 million in 2017.
...
Alonso, who was set to earn just under a million dollars for this season, agreed to a one-year extension that actually gives him a raise.
The often-injured linebacker, who has missed the bulk of the last two seasons because of knee injuries, signed a two-year deal that will average $2.5 million per season.

The Mario for Vernon thing makes sense cap-wise, but this has a putrid smell to it IMHO.
It is the sort of "clever" Tannenbaum likes, adding two players for moving down in the draft, but TOTALLY FAILS the logic test on closer scutiny.
One, the money for Maxwell is atrocious. He got paid because of the other Seattle secondary guys, and without them, he aint worth it!
Two, alonso is injury plagued. Maxwell is injured now.
And three, and the biggest reason, by trading down on this clever deal, you stand a good chance to miss out on a great deal if a player you want slides or another team decides to give up a pile for a player that slides!!
This reminds me of Jimmy trading down before the draft for John avery!

Kiko Alonso's agent, Steve Caric, tonight denied a report that Alonso has reached an agreement on a deal to extend his Dolphins contract beyond 2016.

Hope that's true, merc...giving this guy an extension without letting him earn it would be just plain stupid.
By the way, anyone else notice that quite a few free agents have turned down the Dolphins and/or canceled visits? That's something I don't recall happening ever with the Phins, not even under Philbin.

I Was just getting ready to say what Merc said, It is Actually smart for the fins & Alonzo to wait and see what happens before they talk. moving bushrod to G and see what he can do when he gets healthy is Smart since he has played the position before.

From what I understand, Bushrod has never played guard at any level in his life. And there's a chance he may be sidelined for at least 4 months...have to hope he somehow stays in decent shape during that time - which may be difficult for a big dude like Bushrod.
It's mind-boggling that after all the years of crap guard play in Miami, a new group of decision-makers is willing to roll the dice on an aging, declining, injured Bushrod and a group of young scrubs (Thomas/Taylor/Douglas).

I Swear I saw somewhere that he had played Guard when He first came in the League. OOPS, Just seems strange that going into free agency that the Fins have spent $619 Million in Free Agency over the Last Ten years which is the Most in NFL and Mostly Bad Contracts are All sudden becoming penny-pinchers and they Suck at that to.

I read something different about their deal but if it went up that means that Miami just wasted more money

I was prepared for this to be a bad season, especially the free agent period, but I have to say it has been worse than I expected.
This is looking more and more like that wonderful Cam-Mueller season!!!
If they get a skinny speedster and. His family in the draft.....
