Draft move down and FA

Post by CarsonChris on Wed Mar 09, 2016 5:12 pm

Based on who we have signed in FA and moving down in the draft I expect Miami to select Jack Conklin OT. Just remember you heard it here first

That's not a bad signing but I like Jason Spriggs out of Indiana better. BUT my money is on Shaq Lawson or Buckner. I would bet on it.

That being said, i would trade down as many times as possible. I'd love to somehow draft Derrick Henry, Joshua Perry and Carl Nassib. Yes I've given up hope on drafting Elliot.

I'm now starting to believe you are correct.

There's holes at every position so we could conceivably draft anywhere. BPA would be the way to go.

The depth is simply atrocious on this team. It would be great if the Phins tried to get more picks this year instead of signing other team's trash free agents in an effort to get compensation picks next year. I'm generally not in favor of trading down in the first, but at this point it might be the best thing for the Phins...we're out of the top 10 and need tons of players, so it might make sense if we can find a trade partner. I'm not convinced that 13 is going to net us a great player.

When every other team trades down multiple spots in the first round, they get extra picks, sometimes for the next draft. But not this team. Oh hell no, not this team. This team gets someone with a bum shoulder who probably won't even play next season. Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I would trade down twice.

with the Phins staying put with Maxwell on one side, i'm starting to get the feeling the pick might be whomever is left between Mackenzie Alexander and Vernon Hargreaves.

That's a strong possibility.  But, we could also go OL, DL, LB or even RB with Elliott.  Being that we've only brought in garbage in free agency at OL so far, I'm thinking OL may be the choice (but not my choice, as I'm sure you know!)

I've heard Eli Apple name also, is he another good CB prospect?

Eli Apple is very raw.  Huge potential, but may need a couple of years to develop.  I wouldn't touch him in the first.  Other people love him...I just don't think the Phins have the luxury of waiting years for a CB to develop...we already have Lippett in that role.

Just looked him up. Hmmm. At 6'1" and 200 lbs, with 4.4 speed, has the size and speed we seem to be moving towards in the secondary. Would not be surprised to see him drafted by the Fins.

He just turned 20 also. I still like William Jackson III better than any corner in the draft.

could the Phins be banking on Jack falling?

Just a few days ago it was reported UCLA linebacker Myles Jack was finally fully recovered from a torn meniscus that cost him all but three games of his 2015 season.

When the NFL Scouting Combine came around, Jack was unable to make the most of his invitation, being too unfit to take part in virtually any of the drills. He did however, make it clear he would be ready for his College Pro Day that was held on campus at UCLA Tuesday.

Unfortunately it seems Jack was unable to go after all, according to a number of sources on hand at the UCLA campus this afternoon...

Many draft experts see Jack as a top 10 selection, but if he is unable to prove to scouts and teams he is fully healthy before draft day his stock is likely to drop somewhat, which could be a gift to a team later in the draft.

The longer the questions surrounding his health issues linger, the more damage it will do to Jack’s standing and as such, you should expect to see him drop down mock draft boards in the near future, at least until he can prove his is fully fit.

When healthy Jack is an elite level talent that could be a game changer on the right team, but first he must prove to teams he can still perform at that level and if he still cannot go at the start of April, NFL teams really will start to get concerned.

Comparing Eli Apple to Tony Lippett is like comparing apples and oranges. Apple is a world class athlete. Lippett is a high end athlete.

I think signing Kiko is the end of our pursuit of middle linebackers in the draft.

Not comparing them on talent at all.  Apple is high-end, Lippett is a long shot.  Just saying that I don't think Apple is ready to start, and I'm not sure the roster has room for two developing corners given that we barely have one legit starter.  I'd rather use a high pick on a corner that can step in as an immediate starter...I just don't think Apple is ripe.   lol!

You may be right.  That would be a typical Dolphin move...relying on a guy that can't stay healthy and is coming off an awful season.

Nah, we need our Eddie Moore. "Great special teams player"

Kiko played injured last year. Bad year, yes. Some of it was Philadelphia and some injury. I think he showed he's capable of being the guy, in his rookie year, in Barfalo.

That was 2013.  Two knee injuries later, no telling what he'll be, or if he can stay healthy.

But I do find it very interesting that he bombed last season while playing for his college head coach.

The only thing more apropos would be a colonoscopy!

cheers

I have stated my "bad feeling" about this whole transition, but there is a chance there could be a GREAT player available at 13.

My thinking is Tannenbaum will not take him, but...

More picks would be good, but then again, for the Phins that usually means more EPIC FAIL.....so, who knows?

I still believe it is not so much WHERE you pick as WHO you pick!

You have to actually know who to draft AND HOW TO COACH THEM to make the draft have an impact.

I am not sure the Phins know who to draft AND WHY they should draft said player WHERE they should, and so far, nobody has shown
much skill at coaching the players to get the most out of the players and/or the schemes being run.

Until those problems change, the Phins are going to languish in this dismal climate of abject MEDIOCRITY...at best.

But who knows....maybe somebody will turn in a card by accident with the wrong name on it and the Phins land an IMPACT PLAYER!

I have Phaith that the Drunken Monkey Clan will one day...HAVE TO...land a dart on a great player.

Tannenbaum last draft class with the Jets, graded by "Gang Green" website as an "F":

Sadly, I agree with pretty much everything you say here.

On the move from 8 to 13...I agree that when all is said and done, who we pick matters more than when we pick.  That said, the pool of players in the top 8 - on paper - should be stronger overall than the picks taken after that...especially when you get out of the top 10.  I view this draft class as particularly top-heavy, and I don't see a true "stud" player anywhere (although guys like Ramsey, Jack, Bosa and maybe even Hargreaves could be studs).  I think there's a pretty big drop in talent after that top 10, for the most part - but we'll see.  So much depends on scheme fit, coaching and player intangibles.

But, now that we're no longer at 8 I want more picks just to try to increase the odds that we'll land someone good, and also to help fill in the pathetic depth across the board.  I just wish I could trust Tannenbaum...but I don't.
