Can't lock into one player or position in round 1...it's a sure way to make the wrong pick.  Go best player available.

Agree on BPA.

I actually think this may be a case where BPA lines up with need. However, I would not be heartbroken if one of the talented defensive linemen falls to us and we nab him. Or a top linebacker for that matter.

Well, the Phins do need just about everything, so BPA may very well match need.

If whoever is in charge believes that a CB is a true lock down corner then ok. But I don't think anyone in this draft is anything better than a good #2. I also will never relent on my opinion that a pass rush makes a CB. I'm all in now on Elliot or trade down.

Yeah, I am not a big fan of any of the corners that are likely to be available at 13. I just don't see corner as being BPA at that spot. RB (Elliott), DL, LB (Ragland), QB (Lynch - which won't happen) and WR (Treadwell) are all ahead of CB for me at 13.

Treadwell would be a very interesting pick...make the WR corps a major strength and give Tannehill another red zone weapon.

Treadwell would be an interesting pick but Miami doesn't need WR. If anything Miami needs to trade down and picks someone else. There are other DB that Miami can get lower in the round.

First, it's not about needs, it's about getting the best player regardless of position. That's how I view the first 2-3 rounds.

Second, I absolutely think WR is a need. Landry is a given. Parker looks like a rising star, but has foot issues. Stills is nothing special and is on the last year of his contract. After that, we have nothing worth mentioning. You put Parker and Treadwell on the outside with Landry in the slot - and at times mix and match all three at different positions - that's a goddamn serious group of receivers that could do MAJOR damage. Then you can have your speed guy, Stills, come off the bench in 4-wide sets and other situational spots.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to really like the idea of Treadwell at 13. Most mocks have him going lower, but I don't know that there will be a clear-cut BPA at 13, and I could easily argue that Treadwell is the top WR in this draft and worthy of going at 13.

I'll say that Treadwell would be my second choice after Zeke.

I think that's where I'm at too. Ragland would be my third choice.

I like Ragland but now that Tannembaum is using the prototype again I figured he was too short.

Yeah, that's true - Ragland may not fit the mold.  Very difficult to find those big, old-school MLBs these days.

Why The Fins' First Pick Will Be A CB Empty Re: Why The Fins' First Pick Will Be A CB

Treadwell would be something well outside the norm for the Phins.

Somehow, the top rated player on their board always seems to line up with the biggest, most glaring, sucking chest wound of a hole on the roster. Which in part explains why the Phins drafts have been such legendary SUCK for decades.

Still, the Phins CB position is downright deathly precarious IMO. They have to come out of this draft with one starter, maybe two as Mando says. The collection of "DBs" they have now make me grimace in pain and every QB/pass tosser in the league chuckle uproariously.

This roster is in a state of rampant perforation, with holes too numerous to mention. Anyone who needs a reason for the Phins struggles, needs look no further than the depleted roster IMHO.

It is no wonder Tannenbaum thought it was a GREAT DEAL to move down 5 spots for two possible starters. He keeps all his picks but feels like he has shored up two holes.

All that said, this #13 pick MIGHT FILL ONE hole, assuming the Phins pick the right player. Much better IMO, would be to trade down and get more picks. The VALUE in this draft is going to come in rounds 2 and 3 it seems to me.

The Phins need as much VALUE as they can get, and I think the best way is to get more picks in the 2nd and 3rd.

That is true but not being able to stop the pass is not where Miami wants to see. If anything Miami needs to go doe either someone in the secondary, a linebacker or even someone on the OL before they get a WR. Even a RB would be great if he there.

Yep, but drafting a WR in round one does not mean the Phins can't address CB, LB, OL and RB in other rounds.  Like I said, there are needs everywhere on this roster...just get the best player and don't lock onto one position.

I have to agree but you don't want teams thinking that Miami is just going after good players just because they are there. there are many teams that need the same needs that Miami need as well and if they catch on to what Miami is doing they will start blocking Miami from getting players that will make them good enough to make it to the playoffs

JJ soured me on trading down forever Evil or Very Mad

Besides, how many times in a draft--any draft--do *all* the top 12 picks turn out great, or even good?

There's a player to be had at 13, if Tannenbaum or the scouts or whoever makes the right call. I would never ever take a RB that high in today's NFL though.

I seriously doubt that teams are worried about who the Dolphins draft. If your strategy is to draft the best player available, it doesn't matter what other teams do.

I don't know but that how I feel the fins draft. They worry about who everyone else is picking instead of picking players that Miami need to get so that they can win championships.

It's funny how much attention the defense is getting this offseason. To me the offense was the issue last season. Between not scoring enough points and keeping the D on the field to long, the offense put way too much pressure on the D.

I just want to say, I love how contrarian Birdmond is being lately. I don't agree with most of it, but I love that he's offering a differing POV. cheers

What's not agree with? I think we failed to score 20 points 9 times last season. That can't happen.

Correction: The Dolphins failed to score over 20 points in 13 games last year. That's terrible.

That problem comes with the issue on defense if you have to go 80 yards down field to score everytime you get the ball then there is a problem with your defense. When your team average start is on their own 26 then your defense is not doing their job or the opponent punter is off the chain. I say that Miami offense is not the greatest but at the same time Miami needs to make sure that their secondary and OLB/ILB is getting the job done as well.
