It Gets Better And Better... Empty It Gets Better And Better...

Apparently, the Fins thought Caroo was the second best WR in the draft, and had Apple rated as the second best CB behind Ramsey. And now the story's changed on Jack--after saying they wanted him at 13, now the Fins claim they were going to trade back for a CB if Tunsil hadn't been there.

The talent evaluation ability on this team has been seriously lacking for many, many years. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Supposedly Apple was the second best on a few poles that I saw but I not sure about the Caroo guy. Everyone is praising Miami for going after Tunsil though which is pretty surprising. But at the same time everyone has Tunsil going in the top 5. Also the lowest grade that Miami has gotten so far from many sites is a C+ that from NFL.com

I don't follow College football but i watch Rutgers. RU has a terrible batch of QB's but if the ball is in the area Caroo comes down with it. He might be an NFL bust but could be a very pleasant surprise.

The draft is a crapshoot at best, but SMART TEAMS realize the key point of the draft...you capitalize the picks you have to MAXIMIZE VALUE.

It seems Miami is always ALLOWING other teams to capitalize on their moves IMO.

Tunsil was rated the #2 player on the board, and if you can assume Grier thinks all the off the field stuff is minor, then you can understand the pick. A top rated player at the position which has given the Phins trouble for years, and especially since SuperSoft Joe Philbin did his makeover on the O line. If it works out, the Phins got the steal of the draft perhaps.

What is more troubling to me, is what the video tells me about Tunsil. Not only was he foolishly risking his future by compromising his ability to play football at Ole Miss, by smoking dope, the dimwitted dipshyte did it ON CAMERA to record for posterity!! How daddanged stupid do you have to be to allow that kind of ultimate idiocy to occur???

Not an especially bright bulb in this case. I wonder how someone so dumb is gonna handle a shytepot full of money on South Beach? Not well IMHO.

And then, in the 2nd, apparently an almost near second coming of Deion Sanders is just sliding down the boards, and the Phins HAVE to jump there to get Xavian Howard. The Phins gave up their 2nd rounder and a 4th rounder to move up FOUR SPOTS to get Howard!! This is what happens when you KNOW you have a mortal wound at CB and HAVE TO GET A CB NO MATTER WHAT IT COSTS! This reveals just how SHYTTY is the personnel plans and moves this bunch'a terds have made this offseason IMHO. Just an ABYSMAL understanding of how to MAXIMIZE Draft Value IMO.

Nothing against Howard. He looks like he will ONE DAY be able to play CB fairly well. I think he MIGHT be one of those DBs that cannot stop mugging receivers tho, and draws a lot of penalties. We shall see. The Phins HAD TO HAVE A CB tho, and when you paint yourself into a corner, with your back to the wall (get it...Corner...back...) bad things happen.

At least they were SMART ENOUGH to realize they had to do something, unlike Dumbstedt, who sat there year after year and let good players he NEEDED go because he was too stupid to realize he had put himself on a thin thin line.

I guess it is better to get he player you want even if you have to get groped on national TV like cheap pole dancer to do it.

At least the pain and humiliation of this groping was only confined to this year's draft. Not so with other CLEVER Tannenbaum moves yet to come. (see that is foreshadowing at it's finest! Very Happy )

Kenyon Drake - I guess if you think you are set at RB, and need a specialist, this move makes perfect sense??? Trouble is, who thinks Miami is set at RB? I think Ajayi MIGHT show us something, but he looks like he is gonna be an upright runner who gets injured a lot in the NFL. Why not go for Booker there? This move did not make a whole lot of sense to me. But after the Howard incident, I had realized the Phins were not interested in making sense. Apparently, there was some SECRET FORMULA to building a draft board they use, which no other team uses, and it has absolutely nothing to do with making sense.

Which perhaps explains the Phins lack of draft success for a couple of decades now....

And then, we reach the point of the draft where it seems obvious, DF316 may be right, and Ross must be a Jets Fan...How else to explain the Caroo pick? Not only was the pick abysmally stupid from a positional point IMO, dingleberry dumbarse Tannenbaum gave up a 3rd and 4th next year!!!! How freakin danged dumb is that???

It always seems like the Phins are floundering around like a buncha drunk monkeys with no plan, or even a concept of a plan. Just flingin poo and scratching their junk and picking nits while other teams are using these picks to some purpose if the player works out.

Yet again...we see how the Phins bring about their own mediocrity. Some perhaps good players, but all the trades looked fairly asinine IMO. They stayed put at #13 and got their #2 rated player on their board, but they HAD TO trade up to get Howard, and it was worth a 3rd and 4th next year to get Caroo???

THIS is why the Phins pretty much stink as a franchise IMHO. If you do not have a better understanding of the draft then they have displayed with this draft, you have very little chance of succeeding in the NFL.

The OffSeason from Hades continues!!!

Woe is us Phin Phans.

Great post, FF. I'm in agreement with most of what you say here.

Just one thing:
finfanatic wrote:A top rated player at the position which has given the Phins trouble for years, and especially since SuperSoft Joe Philbin did his makeover on the O line.

The thing is, left tackle has been the one position on OL that has been stable - since Albert was signed. Sure, he's missed some games and we've had nothing but crap backing him up, but we had a premier LT starting for 14 games last season. To me, guard was MUCH more of a pressing issue.

Now, I'm all for BPA and building for the future...but I disagree that Tunsil was the BPA at 13, knowing what we know now and seeing that 12 teams (that we know of) wanted no part of him. And yeah, he's going to start off at guard - but we don't know how long it will take him to get up to speed at a new position. The last tackle we tried to turn into a guard - Billy Turner - has been one of the league's worst guards - so it's not as easy as just saying "OK, we'll just stick him at guard and all will be well".

I totally understand why they took Tunsil - I just don't agree with the pick. A known drug user with an injury history on the Miami Dolphins??? Seems like a mess waiting to happen.

BTW, I had NFL Radio on for a few minutes last night and the two hosts (didn't get their names) were questioning why the Dolphins felt they had to have Howard so bad that they needed to trade up. They said that many teams they spoke with had a 3rd or even 4th round grade on Howard. They called it a classic 'boom or bust' pick, which I guess can describe most of Miami's picks this year...

I don't remember anyone saying Landry was a reach, but trading multiple picks for Carroo sure seems like a reach to me.  That's what happens when you fall in love with one player and absolutely have to have him...you panic and give up valuable picks to get him.  Classic Dolphins panic move.
