Jordan Phillips leapfrogs Earl Mitchell on Dolphins' depth chart

During all of the Miami Dolphins practices the media has been allowed to watch this offseason, Jordan Phillips, the team's 2015 second-round pick, has lined up next to Suh on the majority of snaps. It appears the former Oklahoma standout has leapfrogged Earl Mitchell on the team's depth chart heading into next week's mandatory minicamp, which ends the team's offseason program.

Mitchell, who has started 16 games in his two seasons with the Dolphins, says the battle to determine who starts in 2016, has been heated.

"It's a competition. Whenever there's a competition, you feel like you want to win. You never want to just look at it like that. That's the worst thing you can do," said Mitchell, who had 22 tackles in the 12 games he played last season. "Whatever I can do to push him, whatever he can do to push me, we're both welcoming that atmosphere. I really think it's a positive thing, at the end of the day, just pushing one another."


Jordan started the final four games last season because of a calf injury Mitchell suffered. But Jordan was also deactivated for one game last year because of concerns about his work ethic. Questions about his motor have plagued him throughout his football career.
