Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill takes advantage of quality pass protection
James Walker wrote:Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill experienced something Friday that he’s rarely had throughout his career: Good pass protection.
The most-sacked quarterback in the NFL since 2012 was rarely touched in Miami’s second preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. It was different seeing Tannehill able to stand comfortably in the pocket and able to make his second and third reads without much pressure.
It’s no surprised Tannehill’s stats also improved. He threw for 162 yards, two touchdowns and had a 119.2 passer rating in a 41-14 loss. Tannehill also completed a deep ball of 55 yards to receiver Kenny Stills on a play designed to roll out the quarterback. Tannehill was sacked just once on 20 pass attempts.

Even though Tannehill had good pass protection, Miami running game looked horrible for the first team. I understand this is Foster's first game but he needs to do better and Ajayi looks like what he is a second string player.

Foster 's first step looked very slow.

Bushrod got beat a couple times but, all in all the protection was good. Hard to gauge. I only watched until Tannehill was pulled. I also think that the Cowboys didn't game as much up front so it was basically man on man.

The protection was better, but the Cowboys don't exactly have an all-world front 7. Opening week at Seattle will be a much bigger test for the Phins OL.

I'm starting to think Foster will be that "surprise " cut. I'm starting Pead if I were in charge. Its pretty obvious that dude wants it bad and is playing like his hair is on fire.

Welcome back, Bird!!!
Right now, Pead does look like the best back on the team by far. Foster really hasn't done anything yet and Ajayi looks like a bench-warmer. And I expect nothing from Drake, if he ever plays.
I was absolutely against signing Pead, but so far it looks like the Phins got it right. I'd try to find a way to keep both Pead and Foster, just because I don't trust any of the other backs on this team.

I chock it up to Foster not playing for a while but at the same time he might not be good anymore

Just to temper everyone's enthusiasm about the better QB play against Dallas: remember that in preseason last year, Tannehill played the best football of his life, completing over 80% of his passes with no INTs and a QBR of over 120 - and many Dolfans were drooling over Lazor's offense. Needless to say, that level of production did not carry over to the regular season, as Tannehill regressed and Lazor lost his job.
I don't mean to be the guy that has to piss in everyone's Cheerios, but I'm not going to believe this team is better in any area untill I see it in the regular season.

You better not be. That's my job

Hell, we haven't seen it in the preseason yet, so why would you?
BTW I get the feeling Gase is only just now realizing what he signed up for. Now he knows he's screwed, but obviously he can't just come out and say it.

You may be right. As an example, I find it interesting that Gase goes out of his way to praise Doughty every chance he gets, but so far he's been fairly lukewarm about Tannehill - at least from what I've heard so far. I admit I may have missed him praising Tannehill, but I honestly haven't seen it.

I'm not sure Tannehill is playing much better but Stills sure is and that's huge

Yep, Stills looked awesome against Dallas. If that carries over to the regular season, it'll be huge to have a speedy receiver that can make plays in this offense.
I was surprised at how many looks Stills got in the red zone, and specifically the endzone. I've always viewed him as more of a between-the-20s deep threat. Great to see him progressing and adding a new skillset to his arsenal, and to see him developing some chemistry with Tannehill.
On the downside, Parker looks soft and slow so far. Hopefully he's just shaking off the rust from his most recent injury. He's a such a big key to the success of this offense, but I have a bad feeling he's going to be one of those players that's never healthy...let's hope I'm wrong...
Re: Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill takes advantage of quality pass protection
Dallas saw what a pathetic buncha goobers the Phins had trying to pass block and backed way off IMO. The game was never in doubt. The way the Phins defense plays means the Phins offense could average 28 points a game and still not win 8 games IMO.
The tackling...if you can with good conscience Call it that....is atrocious!
If Dallas had not gotten referee-bombed, the score could have been really ugly.....

I saw the opposite actually. The Cowboys were thuggin' it up all night. Ask Moore if they "backed off". But you might want to wait until he can remember what year it is.

Stills' production only goes as far as the QB throwing him the passes takes him.
It's a two-way street.

Stills has never been a bad player but I do believe that Stills isn't going to be as great WR

Yeah, I'm talking about the blitzes and stunts and stuff. No need to show any of that stuff or try it against the Phins Oline.
The Cowboys were A LOT more physical no doubt. Even when the QB is sliding and takes a shoulder to the head.
