LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Apparently, LeSean McCoy injured his hamstring in today's practice. Could be huge!

Exactly. If McCoy doesn't play, Miami's chances of winning really improve a lot IMO.
Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Meh. All this does is open the door for Gillislee to go off for 200-plus against them.

Actually 316, I feel the same way. I want McCoy to play so that Miami can see if they really did play well last week or did the steelers tank the game.
I want all their best players to play. I kinda liken this to Miami making the playoffs because they played replacement players and then when the strike is over they truly suck.

Not me. I gave up that line of thinking long ago. Now, I just want wins. I don't care if our opponent is fielding a starting team of 3rd stringers - just get the W. I didn't complain last week when we beat a Steelers team that was missing several defensive starters and had a QB that could barely stand, and I won't complain if we beat the Bills without McCoy, Dareus and Watkins.
Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Update: McCoy has a "mild to moderate" hamstring strain. No word on whether or not he'll play Sunday - I'm guessing not. Gillislee and rookie Jonathan Williams would take over for McCoy. Gillislee has turned into a beast with the Bills, and he has made a bunch of huge runs this season and last. He's going to be tough to stop - but he's not McCoy.

I can't argue with that but what i can say is that it could mean that this team will THINK, that they are better when they really aren't and then TanneBUM keeps his job that much longer

I see what you mean, but I think Tannenbaum will keep the job regardless. Ross doesn't know when to fire people, and Tannenbaum will convince him that we're "close".

I agree with this.
I would like nothing more than to see Tannenbaum ousted, and then Ross hands the org to an up and coming executive from another team. I don't for a minute believe he will fire Tannenbaum after just two seasons in the role, and really one with the current power structure in place.
Unfortunately, we are going to have to watch him try and rebuild this roster along with Grier and Gase. My over/under is at 3 years, meaning after the 2018 season there could be a decision made to go in a different direction. But no way any earlier than that.

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
To me, McCoy is only part of the challenge for us.
In the asskickings the Bills have handed us recently that I can remember through the red veil of rage and frustration that we played so badly, it was their defense that presents a real problem. Physical enough to both stop our running game, and pressure Tannehill enough to either sack him or force him to make a bad throw. Resulting in a sack-fumble or interception.
Our defense, if they rise to the occasion, has a good chance to overmatch the Bills offense. If we can limit Roethlisberger, Brown and Bill to 15 points this is not by any stretch an unreasonable goal. We just have not seemed to do it.
In winning 5 of the last 6 games they played vs Miami, Buffalo has scored 23, 19, 29, 41(!), and 33 points against us. In the game we won, the Fins limited them to 9 points.
That 9 point game is the blueprint. Shut down their offense, don't let them get anything going, and give our offense time to wear down their physical defense. It might not be pretty, but it can work, especially with Watkins out, Robert Woods hurting (2nd best receiver), and now McCoy has a bad hamstring which could limit him even if he does play. Being at home helps, because they are not used to the heat - just like Pittsburgh wasn't.
However, if the Bills leap out to an early lead it could get ugly. They'll try and run all day and pin their ears back getting after Tannehill Then when we try and stop the run they'll throw over the top because their QB actually has a big arm with good deep accuracy.
Like the 41-14 beating they handed us at home last September. Let's hope that was a function of the Philbin-Lazor-Coyle reign coming to a horrible and too-late close. Because man, that game was really hard to watch.

Great post. A couple of things to add:
Tannehill has been flat out AWFUL when playing both in important games (games that the Phins really need to win) and in games against the Bills. I would argue that this game on Sunday is HUGE for the Phins...it either ends the season or keeps a glimmer of hope alive - and of course, it's against the Bills. Will things be different on Sunday???
Unlike the Steelers, if the Bills are losing they will NOT abandon the run - they'll just keep pounding it and hope to spring a big run...and throw deep passes off playaction. Can the Dolphins run defense stop that offense for 60 minutes???

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
I actually think that we need to do the opposite. Our defense has no identity, no toughness, no grit, and no consistency. In other words, low expectations or no expectations.
I think to win this game it'll come down to Jay Ajayi and Ryan Tannehill. Strong ground and pound eat up the clock type of running game peppered with play action drags and moving pockets. I think although deep balls are nice, to be effective against this team we need sustainable 12,13,14 Play 75yd drives. If effect, limiting some of the plays in the bills playbook.

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
I think that approach will work Umix.
This team can be effective on offense if the running game is working. Those long drives are great to eat up the clock.
The defense does not get a pass though. Hard to stay patient with those 12 play drives if we're down 21-0. Plus, the more we are down the more the Ryan brothers will be dialing up exotic blitzes and sending the house, which will eventually cause Tanny to crack., Limiting the Bills offense is critical if we're going to stay committed to the run, and play a time of possession ball control type game.

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Long drives are only good if they end in TDs. Time of possession and controlling the clock are great, but it really only matters if you score TDs. If the Phins are relying on Andrew Franks to win the game, regardless of time of possession, there's no chance.
The best chance for the Phins to win this game is turnovers - force 'em on defense and don't make 'em on offense. I know you can say that about any game, but I really think it will be key Sunday, given how poorly the Phins matchup against the Bills on paper.

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
All Miami needs is the offense to run the game and give the defense time to rest so they can dominate like they did against the Bills. Also without McCoy that means Taylor is going run out of the pocket more as well.

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Taylor will probably kill the Phins when he runs - they always seem to have problems with running QBs.
I honestly don't think rest is going to help the Miami D...this D is simply not built to handle the Bills' power run game. Weak DL and terrible LBs and DBs...just a terrible matchup any way you look at it. This is the type of game where we'll really miss Reshad Jones.

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Update: McCoy is definitely out Sunday, and could miss multiple weeks.
Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
With Jones out, the defense has gotta be more steadfast then ever before. Mccoy being out to me is a wash.
The key for Miami is to absolutely 100% without a shadow of a doubt, if they do nothing else they have to set the mutha fn edge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Funnel the plays back to Suh and Alonso. Giving up outside runs will gouge them. I think Spying Taylor with McCain or a Safety possibly could reinforce the box with more defenders as well. Giving them the room to attack from the perimeter.... I dunno just a thought

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Alonso is going to get knocked on his ass all game...he's small and easy to block, and I can see those dominating Bills' linemen just pushing him downfield every down. Why can't this team ever find a legit MLB???
On the plus side, it looked like last week we did less of the stupid wide-9 formation on D. If we can tighten up the line of scrimmage, that may help. The wide-9 just leaves way too many gaps, and our back 7 can't fill them (and the DEs never set the edge either).

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Hell I'd think about running a lot of the 5-2 look we've used in the past.
Cheat Thomas up into the box for run support, play press man on the receivers.
As poorly as Williams has played, he needs to step up big time and play like the 300 pound beast he can be, and showed us in the Seattle game so long ago.

and eating up the clock is now intentional by design. despite all the talk of a fast paced, no huddle type offense in the off season, it looks like Gase is learning what Philbin already knew: Tannehill struggles when given too much pre-snap responsibility at the line of scrimmage.
For all the talk about Ryan Tannehill taking control of the Miami’s offense at the line of scrimmage, the Dolphins had their most success of the season Sunday, at least in part, because they huddled.
“I think huddling for us has helped us a little bit,” Dolphins coach Adam Gase said on Thursday. “We’ve taken a little bit more of a step back and doing less at the line of scrimmage."
Christensen explained: “We have tried to clean the thing up, where there’s less communication at the line of scrimmage and guys know what they’re going to do. I think guys have benefited from that, too. The huddle, that takes a little bit of stress off him not having to communicate to everybody, everything."

It still looks like he has responsibility it just that he waited to long to snap the ball. If you are going fast pace then snap the ball before the D can get line up. why are you waiting for them to line up and then snap the ball doesn't make since.

Re: LeSean McCoy injured in practice today
Pace and clock control are two very overrated elements in today's game. It's all about points on the board. Because of the liberal passing rules, a team can make very quick comebacks. I'm remembering the first time I posted with you guys, that Colts game back in 1436 (or 2006 or something, don't remember the date), where the Dolphins dominated the clock and still lost the game right at the end.
The pace thing, this mantra of the new "genius guru" style coach of the NFL, is feast or famine. You don't score, you end up with an exhausted defense by the 4th quarter.
Really, it's about getting points and staying in an offensive groove. Optimally, you'd want to have long drives and score TDs on 80 percent of them, but in reality it's the Bellichick defensive scheme; the more plays you're on the field on offense on a drive, the more chance it has in leading to a punt/turnover.

So...McCoy practiced a bit today and may actually play Sunday!
Anyway...
Exactly. If I recall correctly, I think the Colts had the ball for less than 15 minutes in that game - and they kicked our ass. Score TDs and you greatly increase your chances of winning - regardless of how long you hold the ball.
