Phillips next to be called out
Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph hasn’t hesitated to call out players who aren’t doing enough. On Monday, he made clear that more is needed from defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, a second-round pick in 2015.
“The bottom line is Jordan (Phillips) has got to play better overall,” Joseph said. “Out of 35 plays, Jordan is playing a solid 25 plays very solidly. He's having four or five plays where it's not very good. I think [Ndamukong] Suh is playing well.
“I think Suh gets doubled a lot, but I think Jordan could play better. Obviously, getting Earl (Mitchell) back in a couple weeks, that's going to help us there. Losing Earl was a big deal for us inside, because now you've got probably three inside starters. Getting Earl back in two weeks, that's going to help us a lot."

let's see if Phillips responds with better play.

Re: Phillips next to be called out
I actually thought Phillips played his best football the last 2 weeks - seems like an odd time to call him out. No doubt he could be playing better, but he's ahead of where I thought he'd be after such a rough start.
I don't get the need for this coaching staff to continually call out players every week. Seems counter-productive to me.

Genuinely believing that Earl Freaking Mitchell was this huge loss is genuinely alarming to me

These guys think they've got a winning thing going by calling guys out. They (the coaches) feel that it's because they're doing that, that is why they are winning.
They'd better be very careful with that.

There was an important clarifying point made earlier, perhaps in that same write up. The coaches are talking privately with players BEFORE anything is ever said in public. So, it's not a surprise to the player. It does go against the old adage about "punish in private, praise in public" but like all people, every player is different. It's possible the ones "called out" respond best to a public challenge.

IF the coach is speaking the truth, then the players should not have a problem with it.
If they do, then you need to get some players who are not dumbarses IMO.

This is what I'm hoping for, that they use careful tactical words with these guys. Remember, the first generation of self esteem and rewards are now adults, and we as a society get to deal with them in all walks of life.

calling players out has a lot more credibility after cutting two former starters. I'm all for it.

Re: Phillips next to be called out
I just don't see the need to publicly call out a player. The fans and players know who needs to improve - there's no benefit to throwing someone under the bus in the media. It just seems immature and unnecessary to me.

On the Phillips topic: great INT yesterday, and funny to see the big man hurdle a defender!

Ye olde zone blitz. It worked well that play. Fitzpatrick is playing like hammered ass this season.

Agree on Fitzpatrick, he is in free fall. Apparently it's a disturbing trend with him, he only has played well when under a cheap contract, as soon as he gets money he falls apart.
