Ryan Tannehill Empty Ryan Tannehill

Post by CarsonChris Mon Nov 21, 2016 9:30 pm

Dolphins get very lucky during this win streak and suddenly the news media wants to anoint Ryan Tannehill the next great QB. He sucked for 3 1/2 quarters yesterday. Did he get it together in the end, yes. Did he finally show some emotion during a game, yes. If I'm Miami's front office and coaching staff I would select a QB no later than round 4 in the next draft. Tannehill's "greatness" is far outweighed by his sucktitude.

Oh, don't be such a spoilsport Razz Or at least start complaining about legit things like how Fins players keep mysteriously becoming unavailable to play during the week between games.

Don't get me wrong, I still think Tannehill's ceiling is Alex Smith. But the literal apex of his career so far is the wrong time to gripe about him. Seriously.

Don't tell me you actually expected Tannehill to light it up against a team whose D is the only thing it has going for it with 3 O-line starters out. The Fins do need to draft another QB if only to replace Moore, but who would they take? In case you haven't heard, this next crop is supposed to be historically awful.

Just enjoy the ride for however long it lasts, bro. I recall you doing exactly that in '08 Cool

He's our QB and that won't change for the foreseeable future. I've accepted this. He's still improving and that's all that matters.

He's here to stay. Gase has seen enough of his potential to go all in. Looking around the league, I can't say this is a bad idea. QB play is pretty bad, with a handful of exceptions.

At 91 passer rating, he's now good for about 17th in the league rankings. More importantly, he's winning games instead of losing them.

If I'm Gase I go into this offseason thinking very differently than last year. Go all in on our power running attack. Look for road grading guards and tight ends that can block like Sims. Expand the running formations and play set - implement more counters, traps and sweeps. Also, work to become an expert screen pass team.

Someone sounds like a downer. Yeah Tannehill has done horrible for the past 3 years but so did our coaching staff. Miami would have never done what they did against the Rams if Philbins was there. So yeah I not going to anoint him as the Savior of Miami but at the same time it good to here Someone talking about Miami or Tannehill in a good way. I know Skip Bayless is in shock.

I'm in agreement with Carson.  I am absolutely not sold on Tannehill yet, and I agee about drafting a QB high.

BUT...

My guess is the coaches are all-in on Tannehill now and will not draft a QB at all.

The Jets and Bills decided to draft a QB just to draft one three years ago. How's that working for them?

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/draft-finder.cgi?request=1&year_min=2013&year_max=2013&draft_round_min=1&draft_round_max=30&draft_slot_min=1&draft_slot_max=500&pick_type=overall&pos=qb&college_id=all&conference_id=any&show=all&order_by=default

Better to spend a pick on one of the approximately dozen other glaring needs.

We are halfway through the season and when talking about Tannehill we can't say he had good games we can say he had a few good quarters or a few good plays. That is all. He is not the future.

They are not going to draft another QB because Tannehill did one thing that we didn't think he was capable of doing.

HE MOTIVATED HIS TEAMMATES TO WIN A GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you really go out and draft another QB just so you satisfy some fans, HELL NO, your team believes in Tannehill and they are going to keep this man as long as they are winning.

The only way they draft a QB is if they don't trust Moore to come in the game and win. Gase has done something that no of us thought was possible. Tannehill come back and wins a game with only 5 mins left. This isn't the Philbin style coaching that Miami had for the last couple of years but this is a team and QB that wants to win.

One other big difference between Philbin and Gase, besides their respective opinions on Tannehill:

Gase has been running off guys like Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner.  You know, guys who really had little business being on an NFL roster.

Philbin used to cut players like Vontae Davis, Brandon Marshall, Karlos Dansby and Reggie Bush--players with actual talent who went elsewhere and thrived away from the Philbin coaching staff.

Big difference.  Welcome change.

I do like the idea of drafting a QB and dumping Matt Moore though. But no QB in this coming draft is beating out Tannehill.

Keep bringing in competition, and not necessarily in the early rounds. Russell Wilson went in the 3rd, Dak Prescott in the 4th. Teams get it wrong sometimes.

Of course, Brandon Doughty is still around, and hopefully will be ready to provide some competition for Moore next training camp.

I do think Mason Rudolph has a real chance to be a good one, assuming he comes out next year. But he might be a first rounder by draft day. We won't be looking that early.

That right there is the problem, Doughty is still around and unless they get rid of Moore and then draft another QB there is no way that Miami draft a QB. IMO, Miami goes in fill spots that are having issue and making this team better for Gase, Suh and Tannehill.
