Miami Leads the League in Dead Money
Yes folk it true.
so what does this say about our front office.
Armando Salguero wrote:Well, Miami Dolphins fans, you can shout, "We're No. 1" and be accurate.
As you know the Dolphins have used this offseason to remake their roster. The wide receiver room is different. The linebacker room is different. Defensive tackles came (Ndamukong Suh and Jordan Phillps) and went (Jared Odrick, Randy Starks).
But all those moves are not done in a vacuum. Many, such as the trades of Mike Wallace and Dannell Ellerbe, and the cutting of Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, Phillip Wheeler and others come with salary cap implications.
And those implications, which include the acceleration of prorated bonuses, are part of the Dolphins offseason story now.
That money stays on Miami's salary cap even when the players are gone. It is known as dead money.
And the Dolphins lead the NFL in dead money, according to Spotrac.com.
The Dolphins are carrying $25.3 million in dead money.
so what does this say about our front office.

It had to be done. This team was loaded with dead-end players making heaps of money, and Tannenbaum is dumping them. It just shows how awful Fireland was, paying tons of money to players that weren't very good. I don't know if Tannenabum will get this team headed in the right direction or not, but dumping a bunch of overpaid crappy players is a good first step.

And Aponte too, don't forget her role in all this. I sure haven't!

Absolutely, SHe's the one who signed off on all these deals and ate up our cap space.
Re: Miami Leads the League in Dead Money
I seriously have no idea why she's considered to be so good at her job as to be indispensable. Philbin's not the only one Tannenbaum needs to get rid of a year from now. If anything, Aponte's more responsible for this than anybody! How's she escaping blame?

exactly - this problem can be placed right at the feet of Ireland...and the Phins are much better off now that he is gone.

Necessary evil. Cut the dead weight, deal with the cap consequences. And draft worth a damn so we get the benefit of cheap young contracts.

That's the key right there.

I not really sure how we can blame her for anything that Ireland did. He bring in the guys, she tells them how much money they can spend and Ireland offers them outrageous contracts. I really think that she is good at what she does for the simple facts that the books are in order not for the fact that she is actually signing off on the contract. I really don't see how she has control over any of that

Aponte negotiates every contract - that's her job. The GM brings the player in and gets him and his agent interested...then Aponte works out the contract with the agent.

I'd rather lead the league in dead money while clearing out the crap instead of having to sit here and smell it for a couple more years.

Amen. One more down with Ellerbe and Wheeler playing linebacker I'm sure I would have cracked from the flood of rage.
