Pouncey to IR

Post by JMP on Tue Dec 13, 2016 11:24 am

Wonder if Pouncey has played his final game in Miami?  Cutting him would bring a big cap hit, but it may be worth it...an offensive linemen with bad hips is obviously not reliable.

We'll need another center even if Pouncey comes back, because Steen basically sucks.

Great player and one of the best C in the game but he spent half of his Dolphin's career in street clothes.

ESPN speculating that this move was made now in order to activate Dion Jordan by today's deadline.

The Dolphins now have one roster spot available, and it's possible the team could activate former No. 3 overall pick Dion Jordan before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.

Jordan practiced with the team for the past several weeks...

might this go hand-in-hand with Mario Williams' recent injury/inactivity?

I thought Pouncey was very inconsistent before this season, sometimes outright bad.  But this season?  He played at an All Pro level - an absolute beast.  He single-handedly gave the Dolphins one of the best running games in the league.  Without him, we can't run at all.  Huge drop-off from Pouncey to Steen - they're not even in the same galaxy.

I was thinking the same thing.  Makes sense, although who knows if Jordan is in game shape.

Armando thinks the Phins will sign a QB and not activate Jordan.  Makes sense given the Tannehill injury.

The Dolphins will have an open roster spot and are likely to use that on a quarterback.
The team needs a backup quarterback to line up behind new starter Matt Moore the remainder of the season.

...

It was believed the Dolphins might promote rookie Brandon Doughty from the practice squad but that seems less likely now. That means the team will be signing a quarterback.

The Dolphins today also will be making a decision on defensive end Dion Jordan. He has been practicing the past three weeks as part of the opportunity afforded him and the team while he has been on the reserve non-football injury list.

The Dolphins can opt to keep Jordan on that list the remainder of the season -- effectively shutting him down for the rest of the season -- or activate him onto the 53-man roster. That decision is based on whether the team feels it has a need at defensive end and whether Jordan has shown in practice he is ready to play and contribute.

It has all but been decided, however, that Jordan will remain on NFI.

Steen is a serviceable OC but he not good enough to keep Miami going. IMO, replacing him in FA wouldn't be a bad idea.

I think that we could get something for Pouncey if he was traded, maybe a 2nd or 3rd rounder. 1st if someone was desperate for one.

I think Steen was serviceable for a game or two. But he's at the point now where he is a liability IMO. He brings absolutely nothing to the run game, and his pass pro seems worse each game. I'd rather try Urbik there...at least he has some strength.
