Vernon
Just noticed Vernon has 1 sack. it's starting look like Tannebaum is going to look pretty good for not paying Vernon and Miller.

I agree, and at the time, it seemed like letting Vernon walk was the consensus right thing to do. Miller, on the other hand, most of us wanted him to stay, myself included. Honestly, I wish they'd kept him as well, because it ended up being about $500,000.00 which in the NFL is nothing. A 1-2 of Ajayi and Miller would have been fantastic.

Re: Vernon
I have to agree with Vernon as well. I kinda feel sorry for the Giants since they paid all that money to the man. Miller would have been better in Miami. He not one of those guys that can be the #1 back. He has to be with someone that can make him better.

Re: Vernon
Both players should have been signed before they became free agents. We would have gotten them much cheaper. Say what you will about Vernon, but his replacements haven't exactly been tearing up the field for Miami - and we will need replacements for them next offseason.

They've all got as many sacks or more than Vernon. That's a win for Tannebaum.

Re: Vernon
It's not just about sacks - it's also about pressures and run defense. Williams has been awful, and Branch did absolutely nothing for 5 games. At the time I thought those guys would be upgrades over Vernon, but they haven't been. We will likely be replacing both guys next season - that's a fail in my book.

Re: Vernon
Update on Olivier Vernon:
The Giants have the #3 scoring defense in the NFL. Vernon is tied for #2 in the NFL with 29 QB pressures, and he has 8.5 sacks, 59 total tackles and a forced fumble. After a slow start, he's had a dominant second half and the Giants and their fans are very happy with him.
Still wish the Phins would have found a way to keep him before he hit free agency...as inconsistent as he was at times, we could sure use his pass rush skills this season. Branch has been decent, but he's not Vernon.

Re: Vernon
IMO he was a casualty of the turnover in our front office. One advantage of having stability there is identifying and locking up young, talented players before they hit free agency.
I'm hoping Tannenbaum - Grier - Gase is a long term fixture in Miami, so we can start retaining talent in the process of building the roster.
We probably should have locked up Landry already, and I can't believe I'm saying this but can we afford to let Stills walk? He's becoming an excellent deep threat and he's scoring touchdowns like a madman. I'm hesitant to create another need with the ones we already have, and upgrading over Stills will be very difficult given how he has performed this season.

Re: Vernon
Good post, white.
I was initially in favor of letting Stills walk, even up till a couple of weeks ago, but now I think we need to keep him. Parker has not lived up to his draft status at all, and Carroo has shown no indication that he's ready for the NFL. I hate the way Stills catches passes (terrible hand placement), but he is the only speedy playmaker on this offense and he's got good chemistry with Tannehill (and Moore too) and he has been on fire lately. No need to create another hole if we don't have to.
Sucks that Parker has been so damn inconsistent...catching 3 or less passes a game just isn't enough.

Yep, Parker's lack of development is a concern. Hard to play when you broke a nail on your catching hand. Not saying he's girlish but I think Obama could give him a run for the money in the weight lifting department.
Stills has been a huge surprise. This is year one for this team playing under Gase's offense. I expect everyone to get a little better next year!

Obama's actually a reptilian so he's stronger than you think.
Even as relatively well as you guys say Vernon's playing, he's still not worth his contract. Dude's getting paid more than JJ Watt.
I wouldn't mind Stills walking. This team doesn't need any anthem kneelers. Tannenbaum traded the farm for Caroo, let's see what he can do.
Who's to say Miller and Vernon wouldn't have left the Fins regardless? I would have if I were them. You have to remember, at that time the Fins were hot garbage burning in a dumpster fire with no hope of ever changing. Hell, that was true even after the first month of THIS season. I'll never blame any player for wanting to sign with teams who look like they'll contend. If anything it doesn't happen enough in the NFL IMO.

All true - but it just sucks to see a guy develop into a good player over a few years and then watch him walk away without even getting a decent offer. And as it turns out, with all the cap space we have, we could easily have afforded both players.
