Combined, these five players would free up around $23 million in overall cap space.
Should the team resign some of their upcoming free agents, I firmly feel that this $23 million could be used to accomplish that goal. With that taken care of, the team’s current $45 million in cap space will remain, allowing the team to make some serious moves in free agency or to potentially extend contracts for players like Jay Ajayi and Jarvis Landry, something the team will have to do in the next year or two.
In this event, Miami will still have some money to spend. New offensive line players could be brought in to add some more depth to the unit. Andre Branch could be given a bigger deal to keep him around as the future leader of the Miami Dolphins defensive line. A veteran cornerback could be added to provide leadership amongst the youth.

I agree with some of what they are saying but Kiko Alonso won't be on that list. I really seeing them getting rid of Pouncey or trading him away.

No way they get rid of Pouncey. They shut him down to be ready for next season. They love him and on the rare occasions he's been healthy this year he dominated. Not saying I agree but based on what I've read he's in the teams long term plans.

It does look like Miami will be in great cap shape next year. It's a shame the free agent LB class isn't that great. It would be great going into the draft with a BPA regardless of need strategy.

I agree with Bird on Pouncey - the Phins will definitely keep him.  I think they may keep Earl Mitchell too - the coaches seem to love him and he's really not that expensive.

I'm real curious to see if they'll keep Branden Albert.  Tunsil needs to move to LT regardless...he's just not getting the job done at guard.  I wonder if Albert can play RT...would love to get an upgrade over the very mediocre Ja'Wuan James.

I'd re-sign Dion SIms...he's a solid #2 TE.  But, we really need to find a future #1 TE in the draft.

I would definitely look into extending Landry.  Ajayi can wait - he's not a free agent till 2019 and has had basically half of a good season...no reason at all to think about an extension at this point.

There will be a lot of holes to fill on this team after cuts are made and free agents walk.  I think the Dolphins will be major players in free agency.

I don't think they're even allowed to extend Ajai. Correct?

My bad...I just skimmed that article quickly...missed the part where they said "something the team will have to do in the next year or two" about extending Ajayi and Landry.  I thought they were suggesting to get it done this offseason...

But yeah, I don't know that you can extend a player after year two of his rookie deal - I don't think so.

I'm much more interested in stockpiling draft picks - and using them wisely - than I am in free agents. But, I doubt Tannenbaum shares my views. I don't want to see anymore trading out of prime spots in exchange for mediocre players with huge salaries and/or extensive injury histories, I don't want to see anymore trading multiple picks to draft a #4 WR that has trouble making to the active list on Sundays, and I don't want to see anymore 3rd round picks used on role players.

Yes, Maxwell, Alonso and Drake have helped us - and even Carroo has a TD - but I'm sorry, that's a piss-poor way to utilize draft picks, and long-term it hurts the team. Time to start valuing draft picks and building the core of the team through the draft. Far too many role players with limited or no long-term starting prospects in the last two drafts. That has to change if we want to build a perennial playoff contender.

I'd trade our comp picks and our 1st to get Reuben Foster and I wouldn't blink an eye. In fact if I could get Reuben Foster and Pat Elflien that's all I need. I'm serious. I'll trade every pick to get these two players. Both will dominate from day one and Elflien gives us Pouncey insurance.

But speaking of letting players walk. How about signing Terrel Pryor and letting Stills walk?

I'm not opposed to moving up to draft quality players and day one starters like Foster. It's the trading draft picks to move up for role players and backups that I'm against.

Man, Foster would completely change the defense. That would be outstanding to get him. Elflien too - upgrade the guard position and get your future center.

And yeah, I'd swap Pryor and Stills. A 6'4" rising star that gives max effort on every play? Yeah, I'll take it!

One player to keep an eye on is Ohio State's Raekwon McMillan. He dropping because of concerns of pass coverage but I've watched every game he's ever played and I think he's more than adequate. Watch him against Clemson in the playoffs. That will be a great test.

I'll keep an eye on McMillan.  I've seen a decent amount of OSU games, but never really keyed on him.

Pass coverage is tricky with LBs, because many college LBs have the ability but either haven't had the opportunities or haven't developed it.  I think if a LB is athletic enough, he can be taught adequate coverage skills by a decent NFL coach.

I think Foster goes top ten. I think a realistic option is TJ Watt, if he declares.

Yeah I love Watt but he's a SS LB.
