NFL, union to review if Fins followed protocol with Matt Moore
AP wrote:The NFL and its players' association announced in separate statements Monday they have initiated reviews to determine if the Miami Dolphins followed the concussion protocol after the hit by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree on quarterback Matt Moore in Sunday's AFC wild-card game.
Following the game, the Dolphins issued a statement saying that Moore was evaluated and cleared by the unaffiliated neurological consultant and team physician before entering the game.

This has been the big story for Miami so far. IMO, I think that Gase should have kept him out longer but at the same time he is a young coach and Moore begged him to go back out there and play. Miami will be fined for this

The issue isn't whether or not Moore was OK - it's did the Dolphins do everything they were supposed to do to ensure that he was OK to return. When I was watching the game, it didn't seem like there was enough time for Moore to have gone through all the tests. He only missed one play. I think the Phins screwed up and will get fined for sure. The league is starting to take this stuff very seriously - as they should. Better late than never...
I have to admit that I kind of wanted to see what TJ Yates could do...it's not like Moore was lighting up the scoreboard...

Yes, I too was very surprised at how quickly Moore re-entered the game. So maybe I don’t understand how all this works. I thought the NFL had independent neurologists that observe and must clear a player after a suspected concussion at every game. If the NFL rep did indeed clear him, then how can the Dolphins now be to blame? If the NFL doesn’t have a rep that clears the player, then what has changed? If the Dolphins ignored the NFL rep, then why was Moore allowed to continue playing for the remainder of the game? And what kind of enforcement system is that if a team can ignore the NFL rep? Sounds like the NFL is covering their ass for optics purposes.

Good points. Keep in mind too that much of the time Moore was on the sideline was spent talking with Gase. So unless testing was done while Moore was laid out on the field, which doesn't make sense, then there's no way both an NFL rep and team doctors went through the full protocol. It is likely that both sides (NFL and Dolphins) screwed up here.

Dog-and-pony show. CTE progresses on every single hit, not just head shots. All the NFL is doing is putting up a good-faith show so that when the real lawsuits start from thousands of ex-players asking for a retirement/workers comp fund, they'll have some measure of insulation.
It's going to end up like this: players will sign a waiver after being educated on the fact that they're giving up their brains and their bodies, as well as incurring a shortened lifespan, so they can play pro football, and the NFL will be protected.
We'll see how the game goes forward, but I don't know how it can reasonably survive without the "gladiator" approach to it.

I agree Degarmo. This is nothing but cover your ass. On top of that the refs clearly missed the first hit to the chin that Moore took. I don't get what the league is trying to do. There is an independent rep that initiates the NFL Concussion Protocol. Key phrase "Independent NFL rep", The guy gave him back his helmet. If the player has his helmet then he is eligible to re enter the game.
