Five Reasons Miami Dolphins Fans Can to Look Forward to Next Season
Ryan Yousei wrote:The Miami Dolphins' surprisingly successful season died in a fiery crash in Pittsburgh last Sunday. There were no reported survivors. Investigators have concluded the cause of the accident was human error — lots and lots of human error. In lieu of flowers, the Dolphins ask that you send your season ticket renewal forms in extra-early this year.
Just because the Dolphins' season is dead, though, doesn't mean we can't gather around and fondly remember the good times. It doesn't mean the season wasn't a huge success, considering the 1-4 start, a plague of injuries, and a first-year head coach.

Won't get my hopes up but at the same time it was nice to see Miami getting to the playoffs.

Re: Five Reasons Miami Dolphins Fans Can to Look Forward to Next Season
One big difference, maybe THE big difference, was that this team found a way to win the kind of games that we consistently found a way to lose during the Philbin Era. This team had a knack for making big plays at the right time.
One big concern, that kind of record in close games, particularly with a soft schedule (though it didn't look that way before the season) often turns into 7-9 the following year. It's great to establish that attitude, but we need more talent to go with it.

The Phins have to find a way to compete with good teams. Until then, it's just fool's gold. Barely beating bad teams is fun and all, but right now our ceiling is very low.
Re: Five Reasons Miami Dolphins Fans Can to Look Forward to Next Season
There is some evidence that provides hope for the future:
1. We beat Pittsburgh at home. Soundly. There's probably tons of excuses they can throw out there, but our team was hurting too and we didn't have every player in perfect shape either.
2. We played Seattle on the road very tight, and had a chance to win that game. Stills drop looms huge in that loss. Given how he performed the rest of the season, I think he gets that chance again he will make the play.
3. We came back strong after being down by a lot in New England.
I know all that counts is the "W". Well, we got 10 "W"s this season, so you can also learn something from the close losses, and the convincing victory against Pitt who is in the AFC championship.
I'm not saying the Fins were any better than they were in 2016. I'm pointing to a few reasons for optimism that we have the potential to compete with the big boys in the league. And this is only year 1 of Gase installing his systems and culture.
We all know the weaknesses that must be addressed to get where we need to go. Free agency is a scrap heap of other teams trash. I'd rather make the mistake of paying big money to retain our own homegrown talents - like Landry and Jones - than rushing to sign the next Mike Wallace, Brandon Marshall, or Phillip Wheeler.

Re: Five Reasons Miami Dolphins Fans Can to Look Forward to Next Season
Beating the Steelers was the bright spot of the season, for sure. But beyond that, I'm just not sure how much hope this season really provided. We learned how to win close games by making big plays - but those wins came against bad teams. Wins are wins, and 10 is a nice number, but getting obliterated by almost every good team we played (except the first Steelers and Seahawks games) just leaves me feeling flat. I'd feel a lot better if we were competitive against the Patriots, Ravens, Titans, Bengals, and had convincingly beaten the worst teams in the league instead of needing miracles to beat (Browns, 49ers, Rams, first Jets game).
I just feel like this is not a team that's building toward a Super Bowl. It seems like there's stiil an enormous gap - maybe insurmountable - between the Dolphins and the NFL's elite.

10-1 with the starting OL. Enough said. That's both encouraging and discouraging.

Teams in the Fins' situation (coming out of nowhere to make a playoff run) always get worse the following season. Just look at the Jets--10-6 last season to 5-11 this time around, with the same coach no less.

My problems haven't gone away though, in fact they might just be getting started. It's only my attitude about it that's improved. Slightly. At least now I'm out of my funk where I pretty much wasn't doing anything for a week or two.
I do want to thank everyone for the positive thoughts and well wishes, I really needed it
