Hogan

Yes, we were right about him. Philbin and Ireland were wrong. There, I said it.

Look at the receivers the regime chose to keep OVER Hogan, from Barry Jackson on Twitter:

Phil Simms reminds Hogan not good enough to make Fins.Fins WRs that yr: Matthews,Binns,Gaffney,Naanee,A Armstrong,Hartline,Marlon Moore,Bess

I never expected Hogan to turn into a good receiver. It certainly helps that he's in a WR-friendly offense with a Hall of Fame QB, but he is playing great football right now. Much better than I ever expected.

I've always said that Hogan is a dime-a-dozen type receiver that doesn't bring anything special to the table, and I still believe that. But he has proven that sometimes even an average player can excel in the right environment, if given the opportunity. Good for him.

Hogan is extremely quick out of his breaks and has great hands and that is what Belichick looks for in a receiver. He's also , as I said when he was in Miami, a ridiculously underrated athlete. He played college Lacrosse.

When he was with Miami I said he was already better than Hartline and I still believe I was correct.

Philbin didn't know talent, period.  He only knew that he felt threatened by any veteran leaders that he hadn't already worked with in Green Bay.

Certainly given his TC performance it would have made sense to find a spot for him on the roster and develop him.  But you can count the number of things this team's decision makers did that made sense from 2000-2015 on one hand.

Hogan also has the benefit of a few more years worth of experience now.

Rishard Matthews had a good season also. Nice we develop players and let them go. Matthews started 9 games and had 9 td. Almost a thousand yards. Pats don't have true number one receivers but they have a bunch of number twos.

Yeah, Matthews definitely looked good this season. I wish we could have found a spot for him.
