No knee surgery for Tannehill

A month and a half after Ryan Tannehill suffered a partial tear in his ACL, the Dolphins quarterback's rehab is going so well that those involved believe he will not need a full reconstruction prior to the 2017 season, sources say.

He will likely wear a brace while playing going forward, but there is not the feeling of looseness in the knee that indicates more surgery is needed.

i got to think a brace will put an end to those designed QB runs.

I guess we'll know more if the results of today's MRI are made public. Hopefully the procedure he's getting in Germany will help and he can avoid surgery.

It will be interesting to see how wearing a brace will change Tannehill's game, if at all.

I still think the way the team is handling this with the media is very odd...

I don't think it will change is game. He's a straight line runner with zero wiggle. I'm worried that he might be afraid to step into throws. It to Carson Palmer 3 years to get over that fear after his injury but Palmer is a big pussy.

this should have been done a long time ago. I hate that they took so long to figure it out

I'm glad he's not getting surgery, but it makes me wonder what the hell was the issue in figuring this out.

Tannehill's mobility will be fine. As stated above, he's not a cutter, mostly just forward running. The knee brace won't turn him into Phillip Rivers. Quite frankly, I don't want my QB running much anyway, only a scramble here or there or a gadget play. One good hit and you're sitting there with Matt fuckin' Moore.

Agreed. The strength of Tannehill's game with respect to his mobility are two fold. Play action is one, he's really effective at throwing the ball out of play action looks. The other is designed rollouts, he's very good throwing the ball while on the move, always keeps his eyes downfield and has made some great plays there.

Running the ball himself is rare by design, more commonly it's a busted play where no one is open, the alarm clock in his head goes off and he pulls it down to run.

The fact that he is not getting surgery might be a problem in the long run and might not allow him to last long in the league.

History has shown that the most mobile QBs have been far more likely to have serious injuries while in the pocket than on the move. That's how Tannehill was hurt to begin with. Remember when everybody WANTED him to run because it made the entire offense better? Why would that change now?

It's about acceleration. If he can't accelerate very well anymore, the QB runs will be nearly 0. Rollouts and the like are a totally different thing.

P.S. - want to protect Tannehill's knee? Get a better OL.
