Miami going after McDonald would be a good choice but probably too expensive.

If he's still on the market, it's probably because teams are waiting to see how the draft falls to them.

You will see a second wave of free agency signings after the draft. Not a bad approach. Sure, I'd love to have McDonald. But even better would be a rookie that plays the position cheap for 4 or 5 years.

Good player, but I don't think the Phins are going to shell out two huge contracts to safeties. The contract they gave Jones means that they are not going to be going after any top safeties in free agency. And that's fine - as long as they draft one and don't rely on Allen.

T.J. McDonald, a free agent safety formerly of the Rams, visted the Dolphins on Wednesday, ESPN first reported. However, that same report stipulated that McDonald has been suspended the first eight games of the 2017 season after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of drugs.

Well, for the veteran's minimum, why not?

It is a need position, and if it keeps us from reaching for a FS if there's a better talent on the board I'm all for it.

It IS a need position...and McDonald won't fill that need till week 10 at the earliest. It's completely stupid - just like waiting for Culliver last season. What do we do in the meantime? Throw garbage on the field like Nate Allen? Why not draft a safety that is actually capable of playing and can maybe lock down the position for years? We just keep putting band-aids on gaping wounds, and the result is bottom-of-the-league defense.
