Katelyn Buck wrote:Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck are two of the most talked about quarterbacks from the 2012 draft class. Even the most casual NFL fans know of the pair. However, in contrast to these household names, Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill is rarely mentioned on a national level. He remains under the radar and in the shadows of his fellow spotlight-grabbing draftees in the famous 2012 quarterback class.

Ryan Tannehill

Tannehill was drafted by the Dolphins out of Texas A&M with the No. 8 pick in the draft. In the three years that Tannehill has been with the Dolphins, he has been on an ascending slope, improving each year. In the 2014 season, Tannehill threw for an astounding 392 completed passes, which set a franchise record for the most passes completed in a season. In the same season, he had career high touchdowns, passing yards and rushing yards. Clearly, Tannehill is proving his worth to the Miami Dolphins organization as the Fins signed him to a contract extension through the 2020 season. Miami believes that their quarterback is the future. Yet, the young quarterback is rarely discussed on a national level.

Winning changes everything. No one cares about a QB that doesn't win games, which is why RGIII quickly went from a media darling as a playoffs-bound rookie to a laughingstock as a losing and oft-injured QB.

Up to this point, here's all you need to know about the 2012 QB class:

- Andrew Luck has a regular season record of 33-15, with 2 division titles, 3 playoff appearances, and 3 playoff wins.
- Russell Wilson has a regular season record of 36-12, with 2 division titles, 3 playoff appearances, and 6 playoff wins, including 2 Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl victory.

Everyone else in that QB class has been an afterthought, including RGIII and Tannehill. RGIII may have fallen off the face of the Earth, but he at least does have one playoff season under his belt. Tannehill has a career record of 23-25, and has yet to make the playoffs.

Right or wrong, people judge QBs on one thing: WINNING. I know it's a team sport, I know other factors are involved - but that's the way it is: the QB gets the credit, win or lose. Tannehill has never even had a season with a winning record, let alone playoffs, and that is the reason Tannehill is rarely mentioned on a national level and gets no love outside of Dolphin-land. Only one way to change it: just win, baby.

That is why I am still kinda ify with Tannehill. I believe he will do something good if they can get him a legit OL that can manage the Run and the Pass but that is up to the FO.

I believe "iffy" is the consensus on Tannehill. Anyone "sold" on the 14th rated QB in the league, with lagging stats in the all important 3rd down and 4th quarter QBR, clearly does not have the right vision for our franchise QB.

IMO, debates on Tannehill have really ranged from "he's not the guy" to "give him the chance to continue growing". I believe the contract structure from our front office reflects they are in the second camp. No one is pounding the table saying "It's done! He's the franchise QB for the next 12 years!". If someone is saying that, they have the rosiest of rose-colored Dolphins glasses on Earth.
