Re: Dolphins Schedule
What I like: except for the obligatory Thursday night nonsense, all the games have a 1PM start time. I figure at least a couple will be rescheduled but it's nice to get the misery out of the way early.
What I don't like: A Week 11 bye?!?! Are you fucking serious, NFL?!?!

Miami will have a tough schedule next year. 5 Playoff teams on the schedule. 2 of them, they play twice. a total of 7 games against playoff teams. WTF!!!!!

Re: Dolphins Schedule
Possible that I might go to the Houston game. A 3 1/2 hour drive away, and a decent little weekend trip, if tickets are reasonable. Had fun there in 2006 and 2012 despite the results of the games.
The 8-8 predictions look pretty optimistic to me. I'm thinking more like 4-12 or 5-11, looking at this.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
On the bright side, the Fins like to embarrass themselves on "prime time" games. So we suffer through only one of them this year.
Week 11 bye is OK with me. Rather that then some of the ridiculously early byes we've had.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
Thank God there's only one primetime game...no need for anymore nationally-televised embarrassment.
Looks like a brutal schedule at first glance, but then again any schedule would look brutal with this team.
That post-bye stretch to end the season looks like a killer.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
Forgot to mention - LOVE all the 1:00 starts. That's the best part of the schedule.
Re: Dolphins Schedule
Geeze!
Even with a lucky break thrown in, I could only see 6 or 7 wins.
Yet again, this reminds me or the start to another season where the questions about the HC, the direction the team is taking, and player confidence all merge into a negative synergy that leads to an implosion and another DREADFUL SEASON!!!
I sure hope I am wrong, but it has all the earmarks.
If this draft is what I suspect it to be, the Phins will be off to the races....towards another AFC East Cellar Dweller season.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
so i guess i'm the dissenter. given that the Phins have gotta play somebody and the opponents are determined by a formula, i think this schedule is about as easy as one could hope for.
a 1:00 opener against a conference foe in our HEAT. all home Sept/Oct games at 1:00 including bringing a west coast team (Oak) across the country and bringing 2 north teams to the humid south (Chi and Det). No cold weather games in NE or NYJ or even Cincy for that matter (and GB ain't that bad in early Nov). the late Nov and mid Dec games against Indy and Minn are indoors. the bye is perfectly placed for a team to play 10 games and then make a 6 game push to end the season. only one travelling short week into a Thurs game and even that comes after a 1:00 home game and is followed by a home game. no stupid trips to London. the only thing that looks slightly questionable is giving Buffalo a break from Miami heat yet the Phins close the season in a very cold Buffalo, but nothing is perfect.
the Phins have a lot of disadvantages (most self inflicted), but the schedule is not one of them.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
Merc, the schedule is "easy" because the league figures the Fins will be rotten again and maybe even worse than last season. By the time that Week 11 bye comes around, the season for all intents and purposes will be over.
Besides, schedule difficulty is overblown. Since '02 every team in a division has played 14 common opponents. It's the one thing the NFL has actually gotten right this century. In fact if I took over, I'd reduce the schedule back to 14 games and cut out the two different games each division team plays altogether.
Sure there's the matter of when you play what teams, but that's overblown as well IMO. It's never been about the "cold" at Barfalo or Foxboro or wherever. It's all about the Fins being worse than those teams, period. Back when the Bills were going to the SB every single year they actually won more in Miami than at home.
The only real break the Fins got is no London game, but maybe that's just because the NFL actually wants to schedule good games there for once.

Who cares. Miami is going to suck and be a bottom feeder. Never will I get excited again.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
Here's the truth of the matter. Lack of primetime games means everyone and their mother knows the Dolphins suck, and no one wants to watch them. They got their one-game requirement out of the way, and it's against a playoff team to try to make up for their ratings stench. Also, it's on a Thursday, the bane of football existence, so 2/3rds of the audience will go to bed at half.

Why would the league put this team on Prime Time? Look at the blowout losses they had last year.

First 3 Games are Winnable after that anybody guess. I think this weeks draft will tell us a Lot about how bad we will suck this year.

I thought they might put us on prime time for our Home game against the Patriots since they struggle in Miami and we smoked them last on Monday night and it was our last win in 17.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
Based on last year’s stats, no quarterback arguably will face a worse collection of pass defenses over the first three months of the season than the Dolphins.
As Warren Sharp of Sharp Football pointed out, the Dolphins “face the NFL’s easiest schedule of pass defenses in Weeks 1 through 12.”
Consider: Of Miami’s first 12 opponents, 10 of them ranked 20th or lower in pass defense last season.
The Jets, who play Miami twice in the first nine weeks, were 21st. Tennessee, which opens the season at Miami, was 25th.
Oakland, who plays the Dolphins in Week 3, was 26th. New England, the week 4 opponent, was 30th.
Detroit was 27th, Houston 24th, Green Bay 23rd and Indianapolis 28th.
The only two opponents who were higher than 20th in pass defense rankings: Cincinnati, Miami’s Week 5 opponent, was eighth. Chicago, Miami’s Week 6 opponent, was seventh.
Sharp, using a multipronged formula, rates the Dolphins’ schedule ninth-easiest in the league.

the problem is, even if the a healed Tannehill rips up opposing passing defenses, the Phins' own defense will happily allow the opposition's offense to match point for point and then some.

Re: Dolphins Schedule
So no excuses when the pass offense flops, then?
And I'm still processing how Warren Sapp actually getting paid by someone in 2018 is a thing

Re: Dolphins Schedule
Warren Sharp, not Sapp!
Things change year to year, so it's tough to say all those teams will have crappy pass defenses again. But regardless - it remains to be seen if the Dolphins' pass defense will actually improve after dumping their best player.
And, it goes both ways: our opponents are licking their chops when they look at our run defense.
