We lost a Dolphin Brother Empty We lost a Dolphin Brother

Post by JMP Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:19 am

As many of you know by now, Degarmo passed away on Sunday night.  I am absolutely crushed, and I can't stop thinking about what his wife and family must be going through.

I reckon I've been posting with Degarmo for over 20 years (or at least over 15...not sure...)  His unique mix of positivity, cynicism and humor always made me laugh and think.  he was truly one of a kind.

Some of you may recall that before the old board dissolved, Degarmo took over and asked me to be the admin.  Unfortunately, that board blew up shortly after.  Degarmo and I had several discussions and it was his idea to start a new board.  Those discussions led to the creation of The Dolfan Cave, so in a real sense, we are all here because of Degarmo.

Somewhere along the line, posting on a Dolphins message board led to the creation of friendships.  I consider each and every one of you a friend, and losing Degarmo is like losing a little piece of myself.  We will carry on in his honor, but this place will never be the same without him.

Rest in peace, my friend.  One day soon, we will all celebrate a Dolphins Super Bowl victory, and you'll be a part of it brother.

Something I'm not sure I ever revealed before: Degarmo actually used to live just a couple of streets away from my DolFan grandparents Shocked Seriously. If only I had known all those times I went there to visit as a kid.

Speaking of the old board, Degarmo stuck up for me after pretty much everyone else in any position of authority there wanted me gone for good and basically took it over just to bring me back. That's the real reason that place blew up, since they did NOT take that news well. But my point is, he went out of his way to stick up for me when he certainly was under no obligation to.

I'll also never forget the very first time became aware of his existence. It was right after the infamous '09 Colts loss in which the Fins somehow managed to blow the game in spite of having the ball for over 3 quarters. He just appeared out of nowhere and I instantly bonded with him from his first post on.

I'll have more to say tomorrow when I've better collected my thoughts.

sorry to hear that.

and while i may not post as often as i used to, i do indeed visit and read this board 4 or 5 times a week. i've honestly forgotten when i started posting with you guys (think it was the Wanny era), but it was 2 or 3 (maybe more) failed boards ago...wasn't there one run by cop (JL?) in Oklahoma? and there was one destroyed by somebody named Adam.

anyways, the point is, while we may never actually meet in person, i have developed a comradery with you folks (even the ones i disagree with) and well...

my thoughts and prayers go out to Degarmo and his loved ones.

RIP Degarmo. This is sad and shocking. I pray for his family.

I would make a donation to the Dolfancave so we can send the family flowers. If anyone wants to do that from us.

This was so sad to hear. RIP Degarmo

Yeah I can't even remember all the the history of how we all got together. Did I start on the DolphinDigest Forum (that only posted how great Jay Feidler was) and got pimped to JL's site?

RIP to Degarmo and God bless his family during this tough time.

I didn't know him as well as you all and while I don't post a whole lot any more, I do pop in more than you all know, he is someone who has been part of my Dolphin family for as long as any of you going back to JL's site. It's always hard to lose someone like this that you are used to seeing all the time but especially for all of you with this being a small group.

I am in touch with Degarmo's wife to see if there is anything we can do, and she suggested that we make a donation to an organization that they have worked closely with in their area - it's a non-profit called SNAP, and they help cats get adopted, spayed/neutered, etc. She said Degarmo would be honored if we could do something in his name.

So, I am working with her to get the details and next steps - I will keep you posted.

I have to say, Degarmo would either be proud of all the debating we've done today without him or rolling his non-physical eyes at us now that he has a far more advanced perspective on things.

Yes, I still miss him and will for a while. I won't lie, there's been a void.

How's the donation thing coming along BTW? I'm ready to give.

I'm seriously glad he wasn't alive to see that fiasco yesterday, or the travesty this season's about to become, or the complete collapse of America and freedom by the end of this year.

If anything I envy Degarmo right now. He's in a far better place than we are, that's for sure.

UPDATE:

It's been awhile, but I heard from Degarmo's wife again and she provided me with info for making a donation in his name. I haven't had a chance to read her message in full yet, but as soon as I do I'll post the info here...probably at the end of the week.

OK, so here is the deal:

Degarmo's wife sent me a donation link for the non-profit I mentioned earlier in this thread. It's called SNAP, and it is a small organization that helps cats get adopted, spayed/neutered, etc. This is a group that was near and dear to Degarmo.

For those of you that would like to make a donation, let's decide how we want to do this.
I'm thinking it is easiest for us to each donate individually, instead of me collecting money and making a single lump-sum donation. I can post the info here, and you can just do it on your own in his name.

Does that make sense?

Obviously, no one is obliged or expected to donate, and if you decide to do it you can donate as little or as much as you'd like. No judgments here!

Individual donations would be best IMO. I'd rather pay for this than something like onlyfans or an internet paper subscription, that's for sure.

The people at SNAP are trying to fix the website donation option...hopefully it will be fixed soon. I'll let you know when I hear.

Meanwhile, if anyone wants to send a donation by snail mail, here is the address:
"Donations can also be mailed to: SNAP, PO Box 128, Millville CA 96062"
