Elway to Marino

I just watched this again on NFL Network. Even to this day I get teary eyed about any 1983 draft stuff when i hear With the 27 pick in the 1983 NFL Draft the Miami Dolphins select QB Dan Marino from Pitt.

One of the greatest moments in Dolphins franchise history!

My favorite part is the media starting rumors that Marino was on drugs with absolutely no proof, then accusing SHULA of starting the rumors just so Marino could fall into his lap. Some things never change

If Schula did that it was absolutely brilliant.

What I especially liked about it was the fact the Jets passed on him too.

That just tears their hearts out!



I think the whole Marino mistake for the Steelers was why the took a QB early this draft.

The thing that Shula doesn't get enough credit for is his guts!!!!!

1) They just came off of a Super Bowl loss and Woodley wasnt playing bad they lost 27-17 but Woodley was still the starting QB the following season. And he still drafted Marino.

2) He took a chance on a QB based "PURELY" on talent. Marino through more interceptions than TD's his senior year and he still drafted Marino

3) Marino was given the keys to the offense basically in his second year.
