Favorite rappers
With all the gangsta talk on the board today, I thought it might be interesting to see if any of you guys listen to rap (I'm old, so it's "rap" and not "hip hop").
I prefer the more old school hardcore rappers. Here are my favorites:
Ice Cube
NWA
Eazy E
Public Enemy
Boogie Down Productions/KRS-1
Ice T
Geto Boys
Beastie Boys
A Tribe Called Quest
Probably forgetting a few, but these are the cream of the crop.
In the past two years I've also gotten into a couple of the former-metalheads-turned-rappers, like Ill Bill and Necro.
So, anyone else like rap?

I'm trying to. I do like the Geto Boys and The Beastie Boys bring back insane college memories. I actually like a lot of Eminem's stuff.

My favorite rappers are Anthrax.
Throw in Body Count and Beasties, and I'll call it a day on the rap front.

Re: Favorite rappers
I used to kinda like rap. Hip hop on the other hand...
Things went sour for me at some point in the mid-late 90s when they all suddenly and unanimously decided to no longer rhyme in time with the beat. Then soon after that every song was about how much "bling" they had and why that made them better than you and that's when it all went to hell. Then they started killing each other off, then when so many of them got so annoying I started WANTING them to kill each other off that's naturally when they stopped.
Anybody else remember how in the 80s there were some people who actually considered rock music satanic? That seems especially laughable now that "hip hop" is far more destructive to society than rock ever was and could ever have been. Seriously, it's not even close.

Re: Favorite rappers
Rap used to be an art. Now, it's just pop music disguised as rap (well, "hip hop") and the only true rappers are underground, outside of the mainsteam.
Just like what passes for "country" music these days. I mean seriously...how anyone can consider Taylor Swift a "country" artist is beyond me.

Nothing more relaxing than sitting outside on a hot summer day with a cold beer or cocktail, with some reggae or ska pumping in the background. I'm not a huge reggae fan, but some Bob Marley or the soundtrack to "The Harder They Come" always get the job done! My favorite ska bands are The Slackers and The Scofflaws.
Re: Favorite rappers
