Not that I'm happy about it mind you But in a way that was my whole point, that this team was GUARANTEED to take a player who's ALREADY been identified as a bust by at least one site based on analytics. Sometimes you just know, and when you know there's no need for any further analysis. Just like when I thought this Zach Thomas guy might be worth picking based off seeing him ONCE on TV, or that Fletcher was awful after one viewing.

If the Fins are really going to make up their mind on who to take more than a month before the draft, they need to at least hire me to make sure they get the right guy, and stay away from the wrong ones. Yes, they essentially got a pass rushing specialist that can't be an every-down guy.

There's no possible way any other GM would look at what was available and say, that's the best guy.

Shit, they could have gotten Lamp and I would have been much happier.

I'm reasonably sure they farm out their scouting like most teams do.

Except for Conley and Foster, I'd have taken every other pick the rest of the first round over Harris.

I never thought I'd say this but yes, I'd have been ecstatic if Lamp had been the guy.

They need to farm out their scouting to us, we'd get them a better draft than this team's had in at least 20 years.

Hard to get too excited about a first round pick that looks like he'll play about 15-20 snaps a game as a pass rush specialist. I'm still hoping they decide to use him as a SAM LB so he can at least get on the field more often, but wherever he plays he's a liability against the run.

I came down off the ledge from Sackseer when I read the Nawrocki scouting report.  

Three things that will make Harris a success:
1.  This kid works.  IMO that's far more important than measurables (see Dion Jordan, and a host of other busts drafted because they were so great in the workout department).
2.  He's dedicated to improving his strength in the gym.  You won't see problems with him ala Parker.  He'll get his nutrition and hydration rate, and his strength and speed will improve with training.
3.  He has the athleticism, flexibility and explosion on film that can't be taught.  Vs say Tarrack McKinley who one scout termed "stiff, stiff, stiff he will get way overdrafted".  

I'm fine with Harris.  But make no mistake, I was pounding the table for Njoku.  Then again, the Giants took another TE (faster) before Njoku was drafted so what the hell do I know?

That makes me feel better. Nawrocki rarely misses. I'm going to buy his guide next year.

Looks like the type of player that will get smothered by big linemen. His spin move is sweet, but he needs to add more pass rush moves. And he looks completely useless against the run. I'm sure he'll get some sacks, but he just seems very one-dimensional to me.

Well, it depends on how you play him and scheme fit vs the run.

The challenge with guys who are smaller and quicker is they can knife through gaps and get around blocks. They're not going to overpower 300 pound tackles so they don't try to, instead they get in the lane and knife through to disrupt the ball carrier.

By the way, this kind of move is reflected in Harris "tackles for loss" stat.

Hendrickson will be getting double digit sacks somewhere within two years. Mark my words. Just disappointed that it won't be here.

That pick was a blatant disrespect to all fans. Miami should have picked someone that would have increased their chances to make it to the playoffs not decrease it. It like the front office hates winning.

Side note: I don't care how good Mizzou players suppose to be, they all suck in the NFL.......

Oh lawd, brother, you've got me thinking about Michael Egnew.

Egnew sucked but he also sucked in college. There are plenty of Mizzou players who are good in the NFL, especially at DE.

Shane Ray is developing into a great player for the Broncos. Hopefully we can get that type of production from Harris.

People want to make comparisons to Wake. Harris is viewed as a first round talent. Wake was drafted in 6th round? Or FA? Harris had the skills and talent in college to get noticed. Wake had to play in Canada to get back to the NFL. If Harris can learn to prepare as hard as Wake then he has a chance to be better. Wake proves the mental aspect is as important as the physical aspect of the game.

This is the same guy who went out of his way to keep Thomas and Turner around until midway through the season you're talking about, right?

BTW I looked into it, and here's the list of DEs drafted out of Mizzou since '07 (the only other Mizzou DE to be drafted this century was Justin Smith in '01). It's a mixed bag, to say the least. The last two "DEs" are Harris's size and currently 3-4 OLBs.

The comparison to Wake is based on size and skillset. But Wake is stronger and has a bigger arsenal of pass rush moves, and he has the ability to get lower than any DE I've ever seen, which gives him a huge advantage against big tackles. Wake also works harder than anyone, and takes care of himself all year long.

Right now, Harris is a one-trick pony: he's got a great spin move, and not much else. He plays too high and needs to add strength. At this point, I think he'll get smothered by big linemen more often than not. The good news is he has the skills - just has to work hard to put it all together. I still believe his best position is 3-4 OLB, but hopefully the Phins can coach him up to one day be a full-time DE. Like I said, I think Wake is his ceiling - I doubt he'll ever be that good, but at least he has potential to work with.
