Parker lost his edge
remember all that off season talk about how DeVante Parker had turned the corner and was ready to have a breakout year?

so has Parker reverted back to where he was...or perhaps this is just who he is - and will always be.
So what happened? Well, Parker got hurt (again), missing three games because of an ankle injury. And he has not been the same since — physically, or apparently, mentally.
“He doesn't have the edge that he had coming out of training camp,” Christensen said

Re: Parker lost his edge
Ugh. Same story over and over with this guy. It's pretty clear that he is what he is at this point. He's a lazy route runner, and sometimes he fights for the ball and sometimes he doesn't. Like most of the players on this team, he's very inconsistent - he'll make a great play every once in a while, but most of the time he's just another guy on the field. He's a decent player overall, and I think that's what he'll always be - I really don't see "greatness" in him. Maybe the light will come on some day, but he's already in year 3...how much longer will it take???
Re: Parker lost his edge
All of that is true about his inconsistencies, but if we used him like all other teams use their number one receiver, he would have more chances to show his talents. Just look at how many targets the top guys get in each game. I bet they all get targeted around 10 times a game.
We go to Parker probably 5 times a game. Force feed him the rock. Make him the number one option. We need to know this year if he is the guy or not.
If he struggles or just shows little fight for 50/50 balls, or just continues to be inconsistent, then, we know he needs to go. He is not the guy.
But this thing of using him pretty much as an after thought and then being upset or surprised that he is not lighting it up is crazy. Things that losing teams and franchises do.
In year three, it is crazy that we really do not know what we have in this guy. I can honestly say, I do not know if he is going to be a JAG or turn into one of the top 5 in the league.

Parker is talented. I don’t think that anyone here doesn’t agree. I do believe that injuries has slowed his progress to maximizing his potential. The very hard thing to do is to judge this guy on the normal 3yr track. 1. Miami is not a normal team. 2. Miami hasn’t had stable coaching since he’s been here.
Hard to judge the guy outside of the injuries. Admittedly, he hasn’t taken care of his body like a pro should but that’s why you spot him the 3yrs, to learn to become a pro. This is the year he was to take a leap but can’t do it with this coaching staff or this head coach. I don’t know Rizzi’s resume outside Miami but should Gase leave/fired/escorted out i would guess Rizzi is next.

Re: Parker lost his edge
But scot, if we targeted Parker more that would mean fewer 2-yard passes to Landry. We might actually start converting first downs if that happened...can't have that!
While I do think Parker is talented, I don't think he's alpha talented...I don't see any AJ Green or Julio Jones in him at all, which is what I think most Dolfans hoped to see by this point. But scot's point is well taken - he needs to be targeted more, not only to try to improve the offense but also so we can learn what we have in him.

Re: Parker lost his edge
I think that right now it's hard to really get a bead on anyone. I'd say most guys have checked out. I know it's not the "professional" thing to do, but even those that put on a good face aren't giving it their all.
That said, I don't think Parker has the mental fortitude to be great. He'll be depth, but when his contract is up, I think he's done here. He's not a No. 1.

He becoming trade bait IMO. He does enough to be good one someone team but never has a #1 role

Re: Parker lost his edge
Parker played like absolute crap yesterday. If that's how he responds to his coach calling him out, I think we now know what we have in him.
Re: Parker lost his edge
He's the guy we should have had on the trading block instead of Ajayi IMO.

Seems like Peter Parker would play better at this point.
